richard g
If the West kept it's interfering fingers out of the ME then at least the Arabs would have a better opportunity to solve problems their way, which may not be our way of course. However the 'interfering' is not going to stop, for better or worse, so the responsibility lies with those who do the interfering because it's they who have upset the natural balance. Which once again may not be a balance to our liking but so what? Either we fix things up in the name of humanity which could include lots of boots on the ground and whatever else it takes or else we keep out. Colin
The West needed the oil and to protect Israel. This is not a new problem, The Ottomans had to go and curb stomp the Saudi's for playing at being ISIS when they first took over Mecca. If you think the Arabs would work anything out by themselves, I think you are dreaming.

Simon Tan
That Turkish border guard base is so nice and neat. It would be a terrible shame if it were to be turned into rubble accidentally....

Adam Peter
What part of 'let the locals fuck things up by themselves' doesn't appeal to anyone as a solution? Its working in Yemen isnt it? No, it is not working there. British officers are planning terror air raids there.
Mr King
It is amazing, the churches mosques, schools, and hospitals are always the first to get hit.

Not at all, religious wars are total wars, even more like WW2 was. Anyway, KSA is a key ally, they are abroad like Guantanamo - and if they weren't, they would be first class Republicans (women in the kitchen, homos in the cemetery, every colors would know their place under the Sun, one true religion, like in the old, pre-liberal times kinds). US bombed dozens, if not hundreds to mosques to rubble during Iraq war. There was little alternative, that's where the insurgents often were holed up. Chris Werb
Video of Turkish SPGs firing from Turkish border guards base into Syria   Interesting to see something the British Army discarded fifty years ago still very much in service in Turkey. I guess they could even be some of the same vehicles, transferred by the US? http://www.army-guide.com/eng/product3723.html http://s123.photobucket.com/user/Turka1/media/m44t1_001.jpg.html The upgrade of M52s to 155m was news to me. http://www.military-today.com/artillery/m52t.htm

New engines, new electrics, upgraded suspension, new ordnance . . . Pretty much new SPGs on old hulls. Edited February 2, 2016 by swerve
