The LCS was supposed to cost 1/4 the Burke destroyers. That is without the sophisticated air defense. Enlarge the LCS to fulfill its Frigate mission, fit it with AA gizmo and weapons, and one is looking at a 1/3 to 1/2 cost of a Burke. Maybe it's better just to buy more Burke Destroyers.

By removing the gun, how many more missiles can they fit in there? Is a gun really necessary?

I can't figure out why the US Navy even needs a LCS or Frigate class. The whole point of the US Navy is to fight "over there."

What the US is working on for the F35 is cognitive EW. Think of it as smart EW that can blind the crap out of enemy radars in real time. This is the next battleground.

I am surprised that the NKorea have threatenned a retaliation vs the US. I thought that they would have taken Japan and SKorean as hostages instead. So what now? Sail the US Fleet home?
