Mr King Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 (edited) Guinness gets a bad rap. I've heard many people say that they can't drink too much because it's such a heavy beer. Yet I was once told that Guinness has less calories than the most popular non-light beers on the market. This led me to do a little research. I was surprised to learn that Guinness also has the second to lowest carbs and the lowest alcohol (that part was a bit disappointing I admit). So maybe it is possible after all to enjoy a full-bodied beer and (somewhat) avoid the dreaded beer gut. Alcohol Calories Carbs Budweiser 5.0 143 10.6 Coors 5.0 148 11.3 Guinness 4.0 125 10 http://www.mensfitne...ories-and-carbs Guinness runs ads here listing the calories in one Guinness compared to the calories in one "light" beer. Their tag line is "And we're not even trying". I like Murphy's Stout over Guinness myself though I have to admit I have not had very much in the way of stouts. Edited March 21, 2012 by Mr King
John Dudek Posted March 27, 2012 Posted March 27, 2012 I used to enjoy Beamish Stout back in the day, but am not sure if the Irish still brew it or not.
Mr King Posted April 8, 2012 Posted April 8, 2012 Care for some soft serve ice cream with your Japanese beer?

rmgill Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 Hey Ryan have you seen the show Three Sheets? The shows premise is the host travels around the world sampling different indigenous alcohol in each country. Its quite entertaining while being informative. I'm not sure if its still on or what channel it would be on since I dont have cable but you can find it on Hulu. I have not.
Mr King Posted April 13, 2012 Posted April 13, 2012 You should check it out Ryan. Last I checked the episodes were on Hulu.
Mr King Posted April 13, 2012 Posted April 13, 2012 Care for some soft serve ice cream with your Japanese beer?http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sbTieKrKOBk This needs a correction. Its not ice cream. Its frozen beer puffed up with air served on top like soft serve ice cream. The goal is to keep the beer cold with out diluting it. According to the article I read its supposed to last up to 30 mins on average. Sorry I forgot to link the article here after reading it.
Colin Posted April 14, 2012 Posted April 14, 2012 I also like Honey lagers and normally buy a local brew by the Granville Island brewing company, this time though I got one from the Caribou brewing company and found it lacked body.
Marek Tucan Posted April 15, 2012 Posted April 15, 2012 i approve of this choice There is a local bar that specializes in beer from around the world. I been working my way through their menu but after I tried Krusovice Cerne from the Czech RepublicI just cant bring myself to order anything else when I am in that particular joint. Being now in the land of wine and cheese, I am seriously disadvantaged. Beer prices in bars are extortionate, starting at 5-6 EUR a pint. Moreover so far I know about only one supermarket chain selling Pilsner. Bah. From what can be gotten here I would say Leffe and 1664 are quite OK, with Guiness being thrown in here and there.

Stargrunt6 Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 My favorite, only had it once was in Hickory, NC at Olde Hickory Brew. It was called "Hefe-Wizen," and a sip would have you staring at the label (well, if it didn't come draughted.) Just . . . flawless. http://www.oldehickorybrewery.com/hefe-weizen.html
scj1014 Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 After my well-documented health issues, I had thought that I would probably never have another adult beverage. However, my surgeon assured me that if I thought I could drink alcohol, that there was no health risk, as my cancer was not alcohol -related.Essentially, the choice was mine. Although I no longer drink alcohol on a regular basis, I do like a beer on occasion. Anyway, I went to a baseball game Monday evening and decided if there was ever a time where I might have a beer, this was as good a time as any. I managed to consume an ice cold can of beer sitting in Camden Yards in Baltimore. First beer in I don't know how long...It was marvelous! It tasted just like I remembered..being a "light beer" it had practically no flavor and was as weak as a bottle of soda. Still, it was beer (after a fashion) and I was able to drink it with no ill effects, except that I immediately wanted another (I resisted the temptation to indulge in another). I am going back to Camden Yards for the season home finale for the Orioles (barring a playoff appearance...who woulda thunk it???) on Sunday with a large group of friends. I believe that I will have another beer...this time a "real" beer and see how that goes down. At $8 a can one will probably be my limit!

Richard Lindquist Posted September 28, 2012 Posted September 28, 2012 if I hold a Henineken bottle (as opposed to, say, a Qingdao) at pretentious bars in Shanghai, the chicks may eventually pay attention. They pay a lot more attention if, when you pay for your beer, you pull a gigantic wad of cash out of your pocket and peel off one for the bartender and put the rest of the wad back in your pocket.
Doug Kibbey Posted September 28, 2012 Posted September 28, 2012 My favorite, only had it once was in Hickory, NC at Olde Hickory Brew. Just . . . flawless. http://www.oldehicko...efe-weizen.html Hefeweizen's or Weissbiers are typically available at any microbrewery that has a range of selection, though perhaps not all of the time. I prefer wheat beers myself (if drinking any beer) and have found them in Oregon, Colorado, California, Chicago, etc. If you look around, you are likely to find a good one close to home, though not necessarily at the grocery store. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wheat_beer#Hefeweizen Here's a "top ten" list available in the U.S. http://www.beerinfo.com/index.php/pages/specialtywheatbeers.html

Simon Tan Posted September 28, 2012 Posted September 28, 2012 Drinking beer in a Chinese bar/club etc. is so retarded. They try to push a crate on you and then open them all so you cannot return them. Net result is warm flat beer. Mainland night life is the pits unless you know the boss. Worse, they all drink monkey piss and try to be cool.

Mr King Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 Buddy and I went out to have a few beers tonight. The bar we drank at has a respectable foreign and domestic micro brew beer selection, though you have to deal with hipsters.Wish I had grabbed the beer menu and took it home with me. I tried one of the best German hefeweizens I have ever had tonight. Very smooth with no bitter aftertaste. Just can not remember its name. The name started with the letter "k", and was long and German. Tried a Genesee cream ale for the first time. That will definitely be something I drink on a regular basis. Then there were the two Belgian fruit beers I tried. The strawberry Fruli beer was great. The other was more of a malt beverage, but it was listed as a beer on the menu. I do not remember it's name but it was raspberry flavored. It was drinkable, but nothing special.
