India is correct to mistrust the US on arms deals. The US sells the best weapons, but the strings attached have the intent of making the customer a puppet.

It is unfortunate that the US has chosen the flaky Pakistani regime as our strategic partner in the region. This was by necessity (Afghan War), but cripes, they are a pain. We do have a long history with the Paki's, especially when India was very pro-USSR, but those days are long gone.

India is a stable democray, edging towards a real market economy. Pakistan is a military dictatorship tottering on the brink of an Islamofascist terror state.

How good are the Patriots?

India is seriously considering Patriots after US denied the sale of Arrows to India.

I strongly feel that the Patriots will not do the job that India require. After all, the performance parameters do not fit within India's requirements.

Pakistan's M-9, M-11, Ghauri, and Shalab will most likely defeat the Patriots' performances.

I get this news from this article:

Also, I read a news article that the Pentagon are leery about the prospects of selling F-16s to India. They said, "acquisition was not simply a matter of adding new squadrons to the IAF. It involved getting familiar with whole new platforms, systems and cultures. It starts with simple things like heights and distances...computing in the metric system versus the international system. When two different jets are approaching the runway you don’t want to be talking to one pilot in miles and to the other in kilometers. It will drive the Air Traffic Control folks nuts."

I was under the impression the SI ("metric") system was the international system.  :P

I believe that international aviation (at least civil) uses nautical miles for distance and feet for flight levels.
