C.G.Erickson Posted October 7, 2001 Posted October 7, 2001 Id like to thank all those that could make it as the oooohhhh and ahhh factor on this trip was the highest Ive ever seen on an I&I...Some interesting things were discovered (Mk 32 Close Defense Weapon on the Comet- "Hammer" weapon) and pulling the Pershing Fuel tank was an added highlight......My Kudos to Michael Green, R.P. Hunnicutt, and of course Jacques......
C.G.Erickson Posted October 7, 2001 Author Posted October 7, 2001 I forgot to mention Mr. Delaney who was kind enough to give all involved the newest and latest Steel Beasts.......
Colin Williams Posted October 7, 2001 Posted October 7, 2001 Even though work kept me from attending more than the one day at Littlefield's, I'm sure I speak for all the I&Iers when I say we owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to Cary, who suggested this thing in the first place, obtained access to the Mecca of tank collections and sheparded the whole group through the I&I. Thanks Cary! BTW, those of you who missed out may be able to get to Littlefield's on future visits to the Bay Area if you suck up to Cary big time. Did I mention the Packers are now my favorite football team??
Jeff Posted October 8, 2001 Posted October 8, 2001 I add my thanks to Cary as well, he kept the cats properly herded despite the fact that he wasn't really on home turf. And many thanks also to Jacques and his staff and the other collectors as well, their passion (and money) give the rest of us the opportunity to play. That was one hardcore tank trip, dozens of armored vehicles and free reign over all. Too bad we couldn't take some for a spin.
C.G.Erickson Posted October 8, 2001 Author Posted October 8, 2001 Collin.....That is the finest example of sucking up Ive ever seen So who has the ability to post pictures? Especially the Manic Moran Memorial to Dwight.....
Harold Jones Posted October 8, 2001 Posted October 8, 2001 As soon as I can scan my pictures I'll post them. Jeff's pictures are all digital but he has a slow connection and it may take a bit.
Stefan Fredriksson Posted October 8, 2001 Posted October 8, 2001 Yes, pictures pictures! Bring 'em on, do not spare us any kinky details!
JWB Posted October 8, 2001 Posted October 8, 2001 I definitely agree that next I&I should be at Littlefield's. It should be two days also. There was far too much to see in one day. I now have info overload and can't even remember all of the vehicles that I crawled inside of. I am still overwhelmed.
Jeff Posted October 8, 2001 Posted October 8, 2001 As soon as I get done catching up on a little tanknet, I'll see what I can do but most of my pictures are on my laptop (very old), they are stored in a proprietary format and therefore will need to be changed to jpg (pain in my @ss!) and then transferred to my desktop, zipped (hopefully into something reasonably sized) and then sent to whomever wants them. Of course I promised the same thing after #2 so I'd better come through this time!
M1Buck Posted October 8, 2001 Posted October 8, 2001 JWB: In regard to your question at the I&I about fins on 120mm ammo, I did some research and both you and I were wrong. According to TM 9-1300-200, only the fins on M830A1 are designed to provide projectile spin upon leaving the gun tube. Spin on other projectiles would be due to correolus(spelling?) effect, gyroscopic procession, or other insignigicant reasons which I am unaware of. If you have any other questions, please feel free to drop me a line.
Jeff Posted October 8, 2001 Posted October 8, 2001 Well I've got all 100 pictures in jpg form and loaded on the desktop, unfortunately, it's about 16-18 megs so that's a mighty big up/download. Zipping it makes no difference. They are in their raw form with no processing or editing for content so I take no credit or blame for quality.
Manic Moran Posted October 8, 2001 Posted October 8, 2001 Sorry for the delay.. The two pictures of the Jaques crowd. The first, for Dwight, has not got myself in it, due to a small misidentification of the 'flash' button for the 'timer' button. The second, of me and family, makes up for it! Left to right the bottom row is: R. Hunnicutt, Jaques Littlefield, John Ford, Jim Warford, Michael Green, JWB Left to right standing: Al Delaney, Rick Griest, Colin Williams, Old Tanker (Ron Seeley), C.G.Ericson, Seth(Skip), Harold Jones, Buck's father (forgot his name) On the front slope: M1 Buck, Jeff Nelson Not shown: Manic Moran NTM [EDITED TO INCLUDE NAMES -- GWB] [Edited by TC (09 Oct 2001).]
Jim Warford Posted October 9, 2001 Posted October 9, 2001 Guys; I've posted a 4th I&I AAR topic on the I&I thread. If you like, we can move the discussion (and photos) over there. For the record, Littlefield's was awesome...the attention to detail with each of the restored vehicles was incredible.

JWB Posted October 9, 2001 Posted October 9, 2001 "Both you and I were wrong..." Just about par for the course. Almost everytime I get into a verbal discussion it either goes nowhere (us) or me and the other guy end up looking like fools!

Stefan Fredriksson Posted October 9, 2001 Posted October 9, 2001 Thanks! It's always great to be able to put a face to the posters.
Manic Moran Posted October 9, 2001 Posted October 9, 2001 You ask me, the most important lesson learned at this I&I is "Don't pull the red lever".... NTM
Mk 1 Posted October 9, 2001 Posted October 9, 2001 Originally posted by Manic Moran:You ask me, the most important lesson learned at this I&I is "Don't pull the red lever".... NTM Odd... That particular lesson is more commonly learned at an air show. As in..."Sure, you can sit in the cockpit. But whatever you do, don't pull that red ..." WHOOOOSH AAAAAAAAaaaaaaiiiiiiigh... "Oh well, never mind." -Mark 1
C.G.Erickson Posted October 9, 2001 Author Posted October 9, 2001 Mk 1I feel bad that I wasnt able to contact you for a Saturday Tour....but contact me when you wish to visit any of the Collectors and I will arrange something...Regards C.G.
C.G.Erickson Posted October 9, 2001 Author Posted October 9, 2001 For the "KINKY"...one highlight was when J. Ford held on to Kumar as she dangled upside down in the engine compartment, trying to release the control linkage to the fuel shut off valve. On the M26. [Edited by C.G.Erickson (09 Oct 2001).]
Jeff Posted October 9, 2001 Posted October 9, 2001 By the way, for those who can't tell, we're standing in front of/sitting on an M-60A2 (Dwight eat your heart out). Manic and his "cuddly tank"! As for the John Ford/Kumar event, someone just might have a picture of that one if he's asked nicely or not paid enough. DAMN, what a good trip!
C.G.Erickson Posted October 9, 2001 Author Posted October 9, 2001 I got off the phone with Jacques this morning.....Thanking him for allowing us to "Rampage" through his Museum....He said it was nice to actually see a knowledgable group of Visitors that were indeed interested in Armored Vehicles...C.G.
