There are types of ground where this can happen surprisingly quickly.

I recall getting my 4WD Toyota pickup stuck on a "dirt" road in Arizona. The "dirt" turned out to be mostly grayish clay and was still wet from recent rains. Thank goodness I had a shovel in the back, I was able to repurpose about an 1/8 acre of vegetation to regain a little traction.

I have nothing but disdain for people who get their car stuck offroad, have no shovel with them, and even if they do, simply throw up their arms and claim that "nothing can be done about it". You're just stupid, lazy fuckers with too much money to throw around.
