Ssnake Posted June 17, 2023 Posted June 17, 2023 The wings, obviously, in attack formation. Less efficient for vacuum cruise, I suppose.

More or less real conversation from 20 years ago: University instructor: "So, do you think our students should learn more programming in order to increase their employability?" Head of R+D at a not-so-small manufacturer of a quite popular brand of industrial washing machines: "What for? We could do almost anything with Excel!"
DB Posted June 17, 2023 Posted June 17, 2023 I have rarely used anything more complex than simple trigonometry since leaving university. When I found a problem that would have yielded easily to integral calculus (it really needed a triple integral) about 5 years ago, I found that my skills had atrophied to the point where I could not solve the problem analytically, so chose to simplify. In practice, though, an analytical solution would have been beyond the skills of most of my reviewers to verify, so it was all good in the end.
Ivanhoe Posted June 17, 2023 Posted June 17, 2023 Back when I was doing real work, one simple little piece of work I did simply leveraged undergraduate understanding of the superposition field from two sources. 25 years later that conference paper is still getting cited roughly annually, according to ResearchGate. The more meaningful work I did involving FFT analysis of complex time series, not a single effin' citation AFAIK. I have a foolish urge to get a BA in Applied Math, partly to simply regain those hard-won skills from youth that have dissipated.
bd1 Posted June 17, 2023 Posted June 17, 2023 i can´t really put it elsewhere.... https://tankmuseum.org/article/tanks Quote From this desire to share and learn from one another came Tank Net; a semi-formal group of non-profit military museums who hold nationally recognised tank collections. The group is broad, with representation from across Europe and North America. Visitors enjoy the layout of our exhibitions, which make for a more engaging experience than simple storage sheds. David, our Curator and Tank Net representative, explained that the meeting offers a valuable opportunity to catch up with industry peers and exchange advice, support and ideas to combat the challenges of the day.

Ivanhoe Posted June 22, 2023 Posted June 22, 2023 Cop; Sir, I am writing you a ticket for doing 73 in a 65 mph zone. Heisenberg; Dammit! Cop; I'm just doing my job. Heisenberg; Yeah, but now I'm lost!
