Xonitex Posted February 28, 2005 Posted February 28, 2005 Damn! Should have posted here earlier...sorry, ThomasCTT. I'm usually paranoid about giving away personal information on the internet, but I trust this place. Name: Dennis LamAge: 17Country: United States of AmericaLocation: Bay Area (California - SF, Oakland, Berkeley, etc...liberal heaven)Interests: Materials Science, Chemistry/Physics, Military Tactics, Military History, Armor Technology, Computer WargamingService: Hopefully Army (In about seven years)Tanknet: I don't post that often but I really, really enjoy reading the stuff here.Comments: This place really is a treasure trove of knowledge. It seems that all of the authors of the net's credible military resources, as well as the resident "experts" I see on other forums all reside here or at least frequent this place. There is a huge gap in knowledge, experience, credibility, and maturity between TankNet and all other military forums I've seen. Best of all, everyone here is open-minded and there is a diverse range of information coming from both the "Western" and "Soviet" posters. This place is by far the best site for armor discussion on the web. I only wish that the older topics could be restored, as there is an enormous wealth of knowledge lost in their absence. Luckily, the sources of their information are alive and well on this forum.
BansheeOne Posted February 28, 2005 Posted February 28, 2005 Name: Axel Age: 32 Location: Lower Saxony, Germany Service: Managed to marr all artillery, medical service and military police with my presence in twelve months of conscripted service, due to post-reunification bureaucratic nonsense and changing my mind about signing up for twelve years. Went back for a voluntary reserve turn in operative information once. Still debating whether to finally go for officer under the new reserve conception, now that I have a politics and history M.A. in place. Interests: Arms and all other things military. Still trying to write fiction, though freelance journalism takes most of the time to pay the bills. Dabbling in politics via friends active in that field, who I advise mostly on the technical side of security issues in an amateurish way. Not a party guy myself. Tanknet: Came here about a year ago, following a pointer from a German military board. Lurked here almost every day since. Tried to register once, but the old system didn't like my eMail address. Also didn't feel much like jumping into another trans-atlantic flamewar at a time when I already had my hands full with BS directed the other way on German boards. Military movies thread prompted me to try again - voilá, worked this time (though I promptly managed to lose this post the first time around). Comments: Flames apart, I've come to regard Tanknet the best source I know on the net for information on a wide range of military and any remotely related issues. And it has resident experts in astrophysics, too. Long time of lurking at least means you already net-know the local population and got the slang down pat. So I have no excuse if I bust a cap over a discussion now.
Guest William Russell Posted March 5, 2005 Posted March 5, 2005 NAME:.....William Russell AGE:.....41 LOCATION:.....Dallas, Texas OCCUPATION:.....Self-Employed Transportation Specialist INTERESTS & HOBBIES:.....I like building military models & even though I didn't spend more than a few months in the United States Air Force due to medical reasons, I have always been fascinated with anything & everything that has had to do with the military, battles, weapons of war & different periods in history. While I feel I have a lot of knowledge concerning certain Armoured Fighting Vehicles & Tanks, I know that I am not an expert and cannot speak as someone who has actually served on & in these vehicles but I am always willing to learn something new & LISTEN to what other people have to say. I look forward to being here for a very long time and becoming an active member in this excellent forum/website.
