NickM Posted April 10 Posted April 10 (edited) Gang, I finished reading it a while back; Sea of Blood: A Military History of the Partisan Movement in Yugoslavia 1941-45 by Gaj Trifkovic VERY detailed book. It mostly covers the Partisans combats from the modest start to the surrender of Axis forces, but also had good insight to the Axis forces as well as the local collab forces. It is very informative but very dense reading. And thank goodness the author took the time to create a section on how to pronounce the various consonants with and without their diacritical marks. EVEN BETTER, he has a glossary of acronyms and abbreviations for the plethora of Italian, German, Bulgarian, Serbian, Croatian and Yugoslavian units and organizations (both for and against the Partisans) that populated the text. Plenty of Maps too, though it's hard to tell both the topography and orientation, sometimes. Last sections give us the 'aftermath' of Tito's victory as well as the overall human cost of the war (which was very high). Another interesting factoid was how virtually every German officer of high rank in Yugoslavia got a bullet or the rope at the end of the war. All in all it's a good read, but it's not a light read.
