Ol Paint Posted February 14 Posted February 14 The USS Harry S. Truman (CVN-75) continues to have an...eventful...deployment. She's been involved in a collision with a bulker. https://www.twz.com/sea/aircraft-carrier-uss-harry-s-truman-collides-with-merchant-ship As you may recall, she had a Super Hornet shot down by the USS Gettysburg back in December. shep854 Posted February 15 Posted February 15 That's not the hull; rather a sponson that extends from the hull to support and enclose equipment related to the elevator.

Bunch of civilian northbound ships coming out of the Suez channel/Port Said, CV-75 and escort are first in line to sail south through the channel when it clears and are running with AIS off at night. Looks like they where going through the shipping lane and crowded anchorage. As usual "What's Going on With Shipping?" has the available info (not much yet). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OqRe-ouavjw https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZBGytkUyZGY Edited February 16 by glappkaeft
Mike1158 Posted February 16 Posted February 16 well, he had a fair run then, getting to skipper the biggest of 'bath' boats........

CO CAPT Snowden relieved and replaced by Chowdah Hill of Ike and Twitter fame: https://www.airlant.usff.navy.mil/Organization/Aircraft-Carriers/USS-Dwight-D-Eisenhower-CVN-69/Commanding-Officer/ CAPT Hill is a competent officer and leader and CAPT Snowden was probably no worse, but such is luck.
shep854 Posted February 24 Posted February 24 The Court of Inquiry might clear CAPT Snowden, but CV Command is the top of the Big Leagues, so there is precious little wiggle room.

Even if cleared, his career is done for, given the competition to make Admiral. A good run, to be sure.

Reminds me of James Tolkan as the carrier captain in Top Gun "You screw up by THIS much and you'll be flying a cargo plane full of rubber dog **** out of Hong Kong".
