we have kinds of the same ecosystem in the the areas below the fall line with lots of pine forests. The pine needles burn quickly, and if brush is kept down the fires will sweep through a stand of trees and not cause much in the way of true damage. Leaving the trees marked but largely unscathed. Longleaf pine especially.

Regular proscribed burns are what keep things healthy and from becoming a problem.

So far, I haven't seen anything here that indicates the LAFD leadership are not doing as well as can  be expected under the circumstances.  They don't set policy on water use or  land clearance and I'm quite sure they didn't asl for their budget to be cut.

Did they recommended less trees? aka less combustible?

and what about lack of water?

I have no idea if they or their predecessors have made any recommendations or even been consulted.  This situation didn't just happen on their watch, after all.  Or if they did if it would have been considered by the local and state politicians who can make these decisions.  I do rather suspect their focus on DEI has not helped in any significant way, though.

Well I don't want to sign up for "X" but what do the commenters say about that basically 'tough sh/t' comment she gave?

Nevermind, I choked by my reservations and signed up--and I am heartened that the commentators are reasonably 'sane'.

That clip was obviously heavily edited.  That always makes me suspicious that context has been deliberately removed to distort what was said.

And that legitimately sucks and I have empathy for them, but for the rich shitlibs its karma for their support of BLM / Antifa looters / arsonist. Some even going so far as to bail them out so they could go back on the streets to continue their destruction and theft of innocent every day peoples property and means of making a living.

Seems a lot of houses, buildings are build with combustible materials. Very few brick ones.

On another note here is Ben Affleck home, so many trees nearby it is at high risk. Lovely but a danger, not appropriate for semi arid desert climate.

Just as an aside: brick has been considered a 'no go' for decades due to this being earthquake country. The wooden frames 'flex' enough to survive most small to medium sized quakes, for what THAT'S worth.

King, it's only 'fung schway' when a known supporter and contributor to Antifa (I mean we KNOW they paid the bails for the ne'er do wells who torched the 'mostly peaceful protests'. ) gets looted, otherwise it's normies getting a raw deal.

BUT seriously the greater LA area AIN'T that rural/vegitated--it ain't like Laurel Canyon and such places, how are the fires getting into cities? Or are the greenbelts, landscaping and brush clearing really that 'much' and is there really no water pressure for hoses?

Sorry to go off topic but Is anyone else getting weird formatting on posts? I'm on Firefox if that makes any difference.

They've not been keeping the resovoirs filled. So...no, no water for hoses in some areas. Completely dry hydrants.

Also, in the urban areas, hedges, trees, trash, lots of trash.

Google Maps has a Wildfires layer. Flip between that and satellite then you can see the amount of shrubbery proximate to homes. The Sunset, Palisades and Eaton fire are all into the flats as well as the hills. The Sunset fire is the one over Hollywood/West Hollywood. .

the seasonal santa ana winds is probably a major factor in what is going on

the fires are not downtown they are still located within the hills and foothills, that is to say heavily outlying suburban areas

gavin newsom was thought to be a top candidate to run for the white house when is term is up as california governor

it would be interesting to see how he might score on the electoral map after his tenure and this event

So the fires are STILL in the 'burbs and 'The Hills', mainly--I wonder how long before the local 'fire bugs' get amped up.

They've already started.  I saw a video of it earlier but can't seem to find it right now.
