Tim the Tank Nut Posted January 8 Posted January 8 So it seems that the icy wastes of Greenland are going to get a lot warmer. Of course, Greenland's sub-60.000 population would like to be a sovereign state (on someone else's dime). The fact is that it isn't possible. Chinese investment is rampant and my assumption is that they mean to control Greenland economically. It seems that Lord Trump has other ideas. At the end of the day it'll be a big commercial and military infrastructure deal with guarantees all around but excluding China. How the sausage gets made is anyone's guess.
Stefan Kotsch Posted January 8 Posted January 8 (edited) However, US security interests must be taken into account. Furthermore, Greenland was already part of the USA in 1241. And, the US English-speaking MAGA population is brutal oppressed. Under no circumstances should the USA be provoked now! No Taurus for Greenland! ☺️ Edited January 8 by Stefan Kotsch
Roman Alymov Posted January 8 Posted January 8 One of pro-Russian comments on this: "About Trump and Greenland Each new US administration opens up a new front to weaken competitors. Moreover, the presidents of the United States are carrying out preparatory work for their heirs. They may conflict in words, but the course towards creating specific problems, laying aside deferred conflicts and opening new fronts remains unchanged. The Biden administration brought Finland and Sweden into NATO, which paved the way for Trump's special operation 2 in Greenland. Just as the Trump-1 administration began actively supplying weapons to Kiev, passing the baton to the Biden administration. Greenland is about the Arctic Front of the USA and Russia. On this front, the United States has a minority stake, so Greenland is needed for formal dominance in the region. The northern vassals from among the small European countries are also extremely important. They will try to kill one of them about Russia as a post-Ukrainian. "Beat your own people so that others will be afraid" - the central principle of the policy of our pale-faced brothers has not changed since the northern states plundered the southern states during the civil war." ( https://t.me/su2050/6537 ) Alternative opinion "The battle for the Arctic has begun. If Trump succeeds in subjugating Greenland, and ideally Canada, then Washington will benefit from the sectoral principle of dividing the Arctic (the principle followed by Russia and Norway). And it is clear that, according to the sectoral principle, only the Arctic states should manage the Arctic shelf." ( https://t.me/kornet_7/1938 ) "The time of special military operations. 1. Why is Trump threatening to seize Greenland from Denmark, the Panama Canal from Panama, and simply annex Canada? 2. Why is Aliev threatening to eliminate "Armenian fascism" together with Armenia and cut a corridor to Nakhichevan one way or another? 3. Why is Erdogan threatening to carry out his own SVO ("Special Wahhabi Operation") in Syria against the Kurds? 4. Why is Israel primitively seizing ownerless Syrian territories in southwestern Syria and continuing its genocide in the Gaza Strip online? 5. Why is the UAE actually annexing the Yemeni island of Socotra and pursuing a policy aimed at dismembering Yemen? Because international law has died and now the borders of countries are secured only and exclusively by force. Therefore, the strong will take from the weak what they can take. The United Nations in general and the UN Security Council in particular, as well as the vast majority of international institutions, are either fully or partially incapacitated. This was caused by the processes of the dismemberment of Yugoslavia and the Kosovo precedent, which opened a Pandora's box, which is now wide open after the active introduction of the so-called "rules-based order" into current politics. This has accelerated the growing understanding that there are simply no commonly used and binding rules as such. And since there are no rules, relations between countries are increasingly determined by the ability to take "someone else's" and the ability to keep "their own". This is the logical finale of the Late Washington world order and "responsible American leadership." Therefore, in the coming years, our familiar world in terms of territorial boundaries and spheres of influence will change. In Ukraine, this is one of the important processes of changing the world order, but it is not the only one. A wonderful new world, where relations between countries and peoples will again (at least partially) be determined by the norms of international law, will come only after the upcoming series of wars and local conflicts, which will be accompanied by changes in the borders of states. As a result of these painful processes, a new world order will be formed, where new agreements will shape the changes that we will observe. The old neoliberal globalism has collapsed, and capitalism itself is in the stage of imperialism, with nothing more to offer humanity than a series of wars and the transfer of markets and spheres of influence. The task of the Russian Federation in these processes is to survive and succeed, including geographically, which should primarily contribute to achieving SVO goals, which will determine Russia's place in a wonderful new multipolar world." As a result, by the mid-1970s, the birth rate on the island had more than halved. In June 2022 Danish Prime Minister M. Frederiksen has officially apologized to the victims."

Yet, colonial amnesia is strong in the Nordic countries, as is the belief that they were mere bystanders to European colonialism and slavery and therefore do not have a racialized view of the world. This notion that Nordic countries are free from race-based thinking is a fallacy. "

sunday Posted January 8 Posted January 8 There was a curious incident, when that parody of a referendum happened in Catalonia. There is a neighborhood in Gerona, mainly populated by Gypsies. A pair of LEOs of the regional police went there to put one of those ballot boxes, but the locals went, let's say, Conquistador on the sorry behinds of the Separatist LEOs, so the Guardia Civil had to rescue the regional police. One of the first times I've read of Gypsies shouting their approval for the GC. Culturally that is a big thing, as there is a subgenre of jokes in Spain, in which rascally petty thieves, or not, Gypsies, interact with members of the Civil Guard, prone to use wall to wall counseling with Gypsies on jokes. I present you a poorly translated example: A pair of Civil Guards, Private Paulino and Corporal Ceferino, were walking in the countryside, looking for a pig that was reported as missing, probably stolen. They see a lone Gipsy, with a pig upon his shoulder. Private: "Look Corporal, sir, it could be the pig we are looking for!" Corporal: "Indeed, Private, lets talk to that Gipsy." They order the G. to stop, G stops, and waits for them. P: "Afternoon, sir. Are you aware of having perpetrated something recently?" G: "But Sir Guard, what are you saying! I am a humble and honest citizen. I always act according to the law!" C : "Excuse me, but are you sure you have not stolen anything today?" G: "What a thing to say, Sir Guard, I am a honest Gipsy. I swear in the name of my Father, my Grandfather, and his Grandfather before him. Also I swear on the life of my little ones, that depend on me to have something to eat! I am Honest, Word!" C : "I see. Then, what is that pig doing upon your shoulder?" The Gipsy turned his head, saw the pig like he had not noticed before, then flicks the pig away with his hand: "Vermin, vermin! Away, away!"
futon Posted January 9 Posted January 9 China has been investing in countries all over the place. Some places like in parts of Africa, its not so hard to see how China would have little investment competition. But if Greenland is so important, why can't the US also just invest in Greenland? Then Greenland can have a balanced foreign investment portfolio. And then the US could just request basing rights in Greenland or Denmark could just request US presence in Greenland.
Stuart Galbraith Posted January 9 Posted January 9 But that means Greenland is getting something for nothing, double plus ungood in Trumpworld. Anyway, why are we really even discussing this. The man is self evidently cracked, its impossible to find any rhyme or reason for what he does these days, other than he is going to be a President again, and he has a narcissistic need to be centre of attention. He probably only wants it so he can call it Trumpland.
Ssnake Posted January 9 Posted January 9 He'll build a golf course, a beautiful golf course, a world class golf course, a huge green golf course, and Denmark is going to pay for it.

Tim the Tank Nut Posted January 9 Author Posted January 9 in the off chance that Trump is serious he can simply offer each resident 5 million dollars per household to support the plan, then offer Denmark a staggering sum. Money does talk... The total purchase price compared to what we waste would make it a bargain. We could even offer to lease whatever Denmark really wants back to them if need be. There has to be a reason that Trump is so fixated on Greenland above and beyond public knowledge.

I dont know if thats true, but it would certainly be worth checking out.
Tim the Tank Nut Posted January 9 Author Posted January 9 so leverage to reduce Chinese control of rare earth minerals. I can get behind that.
