Kilmer Serjus McCully (December 23, 1933 – February 21, 2025) was an American pathologist who was the Chief of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Services for the United States Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in West Roxbury, Massachusetts. He was the first to propose the homocysteine theory of cardiovascular disease, and is the author of the book, The Heart Revolution.

Quote

McCully joined the faculty of Harvard Medical School in 1965. In 1969, he first began advancing his theory linking homocysteine to heart disease, but was met with a chilly reception from colleagues. His professional status suffered, and he left Harvard in 1979. He joined the VA in 1981. By the 1990s, additional research lent more credence to his theory, and his reputation improved. In 1999, he published the book The Heart Revolution.

I'm sorry to miss this. That day must be a difficult time for you every year.

Joe Don Baker, Aka Fexlix Leither and Colonel Jedburgh.

He made a lasting impression when I saw him in Walking Tall as a young lad.  He also did a one season police drama Eichied that I remember liking when it was aired in Denmark sometime around 1980-1. And from then on I would always recognize him whenever he popped up in something.  For example, he had a small role in the Robert Redford baseball movie the Natural, where he basically played Babe Ruth.

Always did a good job, whether he was playing a good guy or a heavy. or just a character role somewhere in the mix.

Yeah the police drama was referenced on Reddit in reference to his death. I woudlnt mind seeing that.

I think he seemed to be at his best as a supporting actor, albeit one that would stand out. And of course he is one of those rare people that was in a bond film twice, once as a bad guy, once as one of the good guys. There are just a handful of people that appeared in a Bond film more than once, other than the leads.

Not yet, but it is unlikely for Scott Adams to see 2026.

Adams said he has weeks or maybe a few months to live.

“I have the same cancer that Joe Biden has,” Adams said. “I also have prostate cancer that has also spread to my bones. I’ve had it longer than he’s had it – well, longer than admitting that he’s had it so my life expectancy is maybe this summer.”

“I can tell you that I don’t have good days,” Adams said describing the cancer as “intolerable.”

Adams said he is in excruciating pain and uses a walker to get around.

Like many others who have given us their best, too bad he's exiting stage left when I can think of a long roster who actually deserve this fate.

Guitarist and singer Rick Derringer, who shot to fame at 17 when his band The McCoys recorded “Hang On Sloopy,” had a hit with “Rock and Roll, Hoochie Koo” and earned a Grammy Award for producing “Weird Al ” Yankovic’s debut album, has died. He was 77.

Derringer’s decades in the music industry spanned teen stardom, session work for bands like Steely Dan, supplying the guitar solo on Bonnie Tyler’s “Total Eclipse of the Heart” and producing for Cyndi Lauper.

Throughout the 1970s and ’80s, Derringer worked extensively as a session musician, playing on albums by Steely Dan — including “Countdown to Ecstasy,” “Katy Lied” and “Gaucho” — Todd Rundgren, Kiss and Barbra Streisand. He played on Air Supply’s “Making Love Out of Nothing at All.”

Best version of Hang On Sloopy.

I thought for sure that YT video was some sort of bogus thing, but apparently it is the real music video (I think they were called something like "song promos" back in the day) done by Rick's label.
