Rick Posted January 1, 2025 Posted January 1, 2025 My New Year's resolution to eat a little healthier is gone already at 5:53 am. Could not resist the leftover home made cherry pie and gingerbread cookies with coffee. Oh well, there is always next year
TrustMe Posted January 16, 2025 Posted January 16, 2025 David Lynch has died. I He did a lot of weird movies and TV programs including which Twin Peaks was my favourite. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cly9vymjexvo
Stuart Galbraith Posted January 16, 2025 Posted January 16, 2025 He also did the superior version of Dune. Not perfect by any means, but superior, imho at least. I really dig Lost Highway too, a strange thing to say considering I've yet to see the last half hour, but it's still fantastic and utterly crazy.

Just for Virginia Madsen as Irulan, the weirdness can be forgiven:
DKTanker Posted January 17, 2025 Posted January 17, 2025 Bob Uecker, former MLB catcher, on how to catch a knuckleball. "The way to catch a knuckleball is to wait for it to stop rolling and then pick it up."

Even Sean young was more alluring than Zendaya, and it wasnt as if they gave her many lines to work with either. Ok, so the alien in the goldfish bowl on wheels I dont understand. That arc I think could comfortably have been cut and it would have been a lot better. OTOH, the sheer off the wall weirdness of that should be applauded. I can only assume he was channelling Jodorowsky at that point and just went 'ah, screw it, lets mess with their heads.' Basically he David Lynched it.

Theres a hard edge to Zendaya's acting which to me is a big turn off.
Stuart Galbraith Posted January 17, 2025 Posted January 17, 2025 Its not that I dont think she is attractive, and its not that I dont think she cant act. I just think Sean Young did it so much better. She was underrated, particularly in Bladerunner. Maybe they just tried to give Zendaya too much to work with, I dont know. Anyway, another discussion I guess. I guess what im saying is, Lynch seems to have made a film I find more memorable than the hugely better funded, much better applauded remake. Which to me says quite a lot about modern Hollywood, and about Lynch being such an original thinker.

Have you ever read the books Stuart? for both films a lot of it was cut from the book to make both the 1984 and 2019 versions of dune. To give some back story to the 1984 film. The directo,r David Lynch, so disliked his product that he refused to allow his name to be associated with it. Instead the name Alan Smith was used as a pseudonym. The 1984 film bombed at the box office because of it.

I have to admit, when I was reading it subsequent to seeing the first film, the images of it came flashing back. Which is when you get down to it, something of a tribute to the man. Visually it was stunning.

He does refuse to talk about it though. Zendaya's charscter was confusing. Does she love Paul or hate him? It was hard to tell.
Stuart Galbraith Posted January 17, 2025 Posted January 17, 2025 Ive not seen part 2 and cant comment. My overwhelming disappointment at part 1 means I probably will one day, but im in no hurry.

It was so disgusting I stopped half way through.

It's worh watching if it's on a streaming subscription you have, but I must warn you it ends on a cliff hanger. It wil be contiued in Dune part 3.

I just thought that each character of the 3 main actors were all disgusting to each other, to the point were I stopped watching. There was nothing in it that was nice. It wasn't because of the homosexual scenes.

The problem is, most moviegoers want a protagonist, not just a bunch of diseased antagonists.

We had a Serbian poster here who used that expression to describe Slobodan, Radko, Radovan and other luminaries from Yugoslavia's disintegration
Stargrunt6 Posted January 18, 2025 Posted January 18, 2025 The late @Typhoid Maxx? I wish he were still alive to comment on the insanity of this age.

Stargrunt6 Posted January 20, 2025 Posted January 20, 2025 I was so glad we patched up at the end and he was seeking God.
Mr King Posted January 20, 2025 Posted January 20, 2025 Maxx was an interesting individual. I miss talking to him. Gone too soon. I hope his kids are doing well.
