Ivanhoe Posted January 1 Posted January 1 Series to which I am looking forward, for their next season(s): Fallout Upload The Chosen Maybes: Prime Target Reacher Andor Vince Gilligan’s new show (working title, Wycaro 339) Homestead, the series (the movie was crap, but the series may be better) Zero Day A Thousand Blows Guy Ritchie’s untitled global crime drama Bosch Legacy spinoff starring Maggie Q
Stuart Galbraith Posted January 1 Posted January 1 The second series of the Guy Richie series The Gentlemen will probably be worth watching. The first one was.
Soren Ras Posted January 1 Posted January 1 1 hour ago, bojan said: Landman https://www.imdb.com/title/tt14186672/ Landman is great. Billy Bob Thornton at the top of his game. I also got around to watching Black Doves. Stuart recommended it in the other thread, and it is a very solid six episode story of spies that manages to tie it all together rather nicely at the end. Very good acting all around.
Stuart Galbraith Posted January 1 Posted January 1 I liked it. Very improbable, in a James Bond kind of way, bu5 fun. You could tell knightly had a hell of a lot of fun with it.

Ivanhoe Posted January 1 Posted January 1 As for Black Doves, y'all are neglecting to comment on the existence or lack thereof, of skimpy attire sported by K2.
Soren Ras Posted January 1 Posted January 1 Not much of that, frankly. Some few sex scenes with quick cuts and closeups so you aren't quite sure what body part you are looking at (probably a shoulder), but the entire plot happens around Christmas in London, so everyone tends to be dressed accordingly throughout.

There is actually quite a bit of exposition being delivered, though in typical Taylor Sheridan fashion, there is usually something entertaining going on at the same time (like the opening scene, where BBT is explaining the ins and outs of his business while sitting tied up with a burlap bag over his head, trying to convince some drug dealers to take his offer).

R011 Posted January 2 Posted January 2 I was slight disappointed that they didn't cast her as Cable in DP2 as Deadpool suggested in the first film's stinger. "She's got range."

Yes, generally she spends too much time kicking the crap out of people to take her clothes off, which is fair enough really. 5 hours ago, Ivanhoe said: I like them skinny gals. Google 'Daisy Edgar Jones.'
Soren Ras Posted January 2 Posted January 2 Have to be honest, I was never much of a fan of Ms Knigthley, but I do think age has improved her looks. She is much more appealing to me now, and her acting in Black Doves is very good. Sarah Lancashire did very well too as the conniving spy chief. She seemed oddly familiar but it wasn't until I googled her, that I realized I had seen her in Coronation Street way back in the 90s, when I spent a few days stuck in the UK and happened to see a few episodes of that soap. On the downside, it does have a few of the usual woke tics in that any gay character is automatically sympathetic and up to no evil. But on the upside, I quite enjoyed that Knightley's politician husband - who is unaware of her double life - is portrayed as a very decent bloke throughout, a good father and a much better spouse than Knightley in most respects.
Stuart Galbraith Posted January 2 Posted January 2 Yes, Sarah Lancashire has been in a LOT of stuff. She was recently in a Police drama called Happy Valley which Ive not seen, but received excellent reviews. I think she is generally excellent in everything she plays, here she is kind of like a female George Smiley, and she does it rather well I thought. Ok, so there is a gay character. But to be fair, its not done just to tick a diversity box. He is in a relationship (or was) with a man, which ended after he had to kill some people. It could just as easily be a relationship with a female, and nothing would change in the plot. And its Ben Wishaw, he might be a Gay feminist, but he is also a great actor, so I cut him slack. For me, the absolutely delight was the 2 lesbian hitwomen, whom were both excellent in their role. It was almost like seeing a female versions of Mr Wint and Mr Kidd. I almost wish they would get a spin off series. 'Where did you put your rocket launcher?' 'I tidied it away!' The guy who play's Knightleys Husband is played by Andrew Buchan, who was in a Tv series in 2009 called 'Garrows Law'. Its about a council for the accused in Georgian London at the old Bailey, and if you can find it online anywhere, its really rather good period drama, all based on real incidents. It also has Lyndsey Marshal in it whom most people would remember playing Cleopatra in the 'Rome' TV series, and was also excellent in it.
Stuart Galbraith Posted January 2 Posted January 2 (edited) Oh, couple more recommendations. There was a BBC drama on last year called 'The Gold'. I suspect a series 2 will probably be out this year sometime, so keep an eye open for it. Series 1 was excellent. Series 2 of SAS Rogue Hero's started last night, and generally it seems better focused than Series 1. They have made an effort to be historically accurate. In one scene in Cairo there is a recognisable representation of a JKLM Destroyer parked by the quayside. Most people online seem to have been impressed by the Infantry landing craft which the newly rebadged 'SRS' assault Sicily. Whilst the scenes with the gliders that fell short are overplayed, they do show events that occurred and been nearly airbrushed out of history, so it was good to see that get some airtime as well. Soren Ras Posted January 2 Posted January 2 Rogue Heroes season 2 arriving is just what the doctor ordered. Excellent start to 2025. One of the very few shows I look forward to seeing come back.
Stuart Galbraith Posted January 2 Posted January 2 The first episode was nuts. I gather there is some debate about whether Paddy Mayne was ever thrown in the guardroom, and the first episode has it happening within moments of the series starting. But you know, I can help but think Mayne would not be entirely too upset to be portrayed that way. It portrays him as having to show responsiblity, take orders, which seems by and large what really happened to Mayne. There is less the homocidal Mayne, and rather more the thoughtful calculating Mayne, which was the other side of his character. What the hell, at least the poor bugger is being remembered at all. Sofia Boutella is given a little more to do in this series than the last one, which is good, athough again, you have to wonder at the inclusion at all. perhaps it would just all appear just a little too laddish without any women at all in it. Hopefully she gets a Sten gun at some point.

TrustMe Posted January 2 Posted January 2 I know that some people have slated Star Wars the Acolyte but i'm one episode in and other than the matrix style martial arts scene at the begining I think it was ok.

Stefan Fredriksson Posted January 6 Posted January 6 I would not bother with "Whiskey on the rocks." Tried 3-4 episodes, and I guess it was meant to be funny, but I found it not particularly funny. I much more would have liked to see a serious dramatization of the event.
Stefan Fredriksson Posted January 10 Posted January 10 American Primeval. Refreshingly relentless. Looking for girl-bosses? Not many here, at least not 2 episodes in. Taylor Kitsch is good. So there was a Mormon militia? Had no idea.
