Following the reaction to this has been interesting.  I've seen a lot of commentary about concern this might be the start of a 'class war' against the wealthy.  But rebuttals to that commentary have pointed out how Americans tend to not inherently hate the wealthy, here they just hate someone who was wealthy and made billions for his company and stockholders at the expense of Americans just trying to live (in a system by law they have to use).  This seems to clearly be backlash against our healthcare system, plain and simple.  This CEO that was killed, seemed to be the epitome of what's wrong with that system (two things can be right - it was wrong to murder him but at the same time he was a PoS who no one will mourn).

Makes me wonder if we'll see any movement on reform.  Obamacare didn't fix anything (especially costs) but just plugged some holes in the old rules and those fixes Americans like.  The Rs have had over a dozen years since Obamacare to come up with their own plan but per the debates we know they still have nothing ("we have concepts of plans" got a lot of play and laughter after that debate).

Just another example, like SS from in the 'Empty Planet' discussion, of a long-lasting problem in this country going unresolved for decades at this point.  Just like SS it probably won't be touched til we're right near the point of the system collapsing.

Police are yet to recover the murder weapon, however police sources told the New York Post the gun is thought to be a Swiss-made Brugger & Thomet VP9.

UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson may have been assassinated with a Brugger & Thomet VP9, a WW2-era inspired firearm

What I was hearing this afternoon is that the weapon was the product of 3D printing.

Cops said the 26-year-old was born and raised in Towson, Maryland, to a wealthy well-known local family — and has a cousin who is a state lawmaker.

Luigi’s family also owns and has developed property throughout the area, including Turf Valley Resort in Ellicott City and the Hayfields Country Club in Cockeysville, local outlets said.

In addition, it reportedly operates the Lorien Health Services nursing homes and the radio station WCBM-AM.

He also has ties to San Francisco and a last known address in Honolulu, Hawaii, according to authorities.

Mangione graduated in 2016 as valedictorian from Gilman School — an all-boys high school in Baltimore, Maryland that cost upwards of $37,000 a year.

He went on to study at the University of Pennsylvania where the tech hotshot graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering (BSE), Computer and Information Science in 2020, according to his LinkedIn profile.

Mangione has spewed a wide-range of political opinions on social media — with bizarre posts ranging from calls to ban sex toys in Japan, comparisons of modern America to the fall of Rome, and denouncements of wokeism and DEI practices.

He has expressed his love for a slew of authors, bloggers, thinkers, and revolutionists including Aldous Huxley, Tim Urban, Jonathan Haidt, and Ted Kzacinski.

A fan of Ted Kaczynski yet gets a CS degree.

Boogeyman Brian Thompson, the son of a grain elevator worker, inherited his father's work ethic to successfully graduate from high school as the class valedictorian.  He then attended a state university, the University of Iowa from where he also graduated with honors and was his class valedictorian.  He was gunned down by the Hero of Joe Sixpack, the product of a very well heeled family and Ivy League education.

Yep. And that boys and girls is what happened to Occupy Wall Street.

You figured the left would be protesting insurance companies instead of shooting the CEOs.
