Stuart Galbraith Posted October 10 Posted October 10 Not sure this is the right place to put it, since it's much more than Tank Photos. But the Imperial war museum has been digitising it's collection of Brixmis tour footage. There is a rich collection of Tanks including T64 and T80, BMPs, soft skin equipment, aircraft, and just day to day Photos of life in the DDR. https://www.iwm.org.uk/collections/search?query=&pageSize=30&media-records=all-records&style=image&filters[webCategory][Photographs]=on&filters[subjectString][British Commander-in-Chief's Mission to the Soviet Forces in Germany (BRIXMIS)]=on&page=5

alejandro_ Posted October 11 Posted October 11 A while ago I compiled a few on the T-64 here: https://alejandro-8.blogspot.com/2019/08/fotografia-britanica-de-un-t-64.html
DB Posted October 11 Posted October 11 I would suggest the Military History sub-forum would be a better location.
Stuart Galbraith Posted October 12 Author Posted October 12 (edited) Where I judged it would probably be completely ignored, which I why I chose put it in the AFV section There is more than enough T64 and T80 photographs in the album to warrant it. Brixmis discussions have historically been on the AFV forum, which is why I put it there, and would appreciate it going back there, not least so Jim Warford would be more likely to see it. GJK Posted October 12 Posted October 12 Good stuff Stuart. I was in Berlin a few weeks ago for work. I went out to Potsdam for one morning to look at some Cold War sights, including the former BRIXMIS mission house. Best, Greg.
Stuart Galbraith Posted October 13 Author Posted October 13 Yeah, I was looking it up on Google Earth not long ago, I was quite impressed how little its been buggered about with.
RETAC21 Posted October 13 Posted October 13 Unfortunately, the photos are not explained, because I don't see what intelligence value this one has... https://www.iwm.org.uk/collections/item/object/206278519
Stuart Galbraith Posted October 13 Author Posted October 13 Clear evidence of an upper class in the DDR.... A lot of time they were practicing their camera skills. I read that occasionally they would hang out at the naturist sites, to practice camera skills, etc etc..

Stuart Galbraith Posted November 3 Author Posted November 3 Does the Berlin book mention much about the US SF community in Berlin? Only found out about that when one of their number started writing spy thrillers, and it was clear he had been across the border a few times. Thanks, finally another Brixmis book, after 20 years!

The only one ive read in any depth has been the spy thriller he wrote 'A Question of Time' which was rather good. He is a very interesting author. Thanks, Ill put that on preorder then. Though Ive been waiting for an Amazonpreorder on the modern British army since mid September. So much for early...
Stuart Galbraith Posted November 5 Author Posted November 5 Remarkable coincidence, James Stejskal does an interview with True Spies Debriefs, on his time in the Green Berets in Zaire, and being in Berlin when the Berlin wall fell. https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/true-spies-debriefs-james-stejskal-in-berlin-as-the/id1508522747?i=1000674901436 Got a nagging feeling he did another one, either for Cold War Conversations, or Spybrary.
