Depends on where and how far to the border.

Umm, I don't think you understand the terrain. The Tijuana cartel controls the whole Baja peninsula. TJ itself is #5 on the list of the world's highest per capita murder rates. US federal government employees are not supposed to drive at night near the border, on the US side of the border.

Now, that is a frightening prospect!

That's like trying to run cruise control through the Appalachian mountains on anything but roads like the Great Smokey Mountains Expressway. It DOESN'T work on the Blue Ridge Parkway which has a 35 and 45mph speed limit.

You get some decreasing radius turns that are NO Bueno with cruise control.

I understand the Terrain. I don't know where your sibling is. If they're in Lake Tahoe, the local SO might even lend you a gun if you're real nice and you're part of the club. If you mean Baja California and not US California, I'll ask, why are they there at all now?

Problem of those backcountry lanes is that they are barely 8ft wide, and there is overgrown, about 4-5ft grass, encroaching the road. Very bad visibility around corners, and there are plenty of those.

We met those roads going to the Fleet Air Arm Museum in Yeovil. Yours truly was driving a left-hand steering car...

We have roads like that. And we have REAL trucks that still try to drive down them. Usually farmer's trucks.

You don't understand the terrain. The cartels are operating freely in the national and state forests in California, running grow ops.

During a lockdown, the natural chokepoints such as I-8 at Yuma will possibly be manned by CHP. May not even be possible to drive in from an adjacent state during the next lockdown, if you have outta state plates and D/L. During the 20-21 lockdown, I seriously looked into this stuff. It was worse than reported.

We did not meet any truck in those roads, fortunately.

Not surprising really. Fly in. Make friends with someone with a Cessna or light twin.

For reference I have a friend who has gone into columbia to search for someone. He didn’t go alone.

I just talked to that friend. Your sibling isn’t in Humboldt county are they?

Can you imagine self-driving cars maintaining 60mph on those Dorset back-roads? After all, they're allowed to because that's the speed limit.

I can only imagine the festivities when one heads down a heavily washboarded (is there any other kind?) gravel road at the default speed limit of 45mph.

A newly identified smartphone vulnerability can reveal the floor plans of where you are and what you are doing - and it is possible that companies or intelligence agencies are already making use of it.

Hackers, app developers and even government agencies could be using your smartphone to create a map of the room you are in and determine what you are doing. The security vulnerability uses data in the GPS signal and doesn’t require access to data from the camera, microphone or accelerometer.

China and DPRK sure do love AI for a reason.

Red Sox’ Jarren Duran suspended for two games after calling a fan a "f*cking fa**ot" during a game. "Tennis racket, tennis racket, you need a tennis racket," the fan was heard shouting at Duran. "Shut up you f*cking fa**ot," Duran shot back. Duran later apologized for the comments. "During tonight’s game, I used a truly horrific word when responding to a fan." "I feel awful knowing how many people I offended and disappointed. I apologize to the entire Red Sox organization, but more importantly to the entire LGBTQ community. Our young fans are supposed to be able to look up to me as a role model, but tonight I fell far short of that responsibility."

"The team announced that Duran's salary from the suspension will be donated to PFLAG (Federation of Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays)."

That is a very smart appliance, at least from the manufacturer's point of view.

Assuming that he has secured himself a simultaneously dumb and rich enough customer base. This is every capitalist's dream - but a fool and his money will soon part.

Want vs need, if you fail that estimate don't be surprised when you get skinned alive by corporations.

I have a tower washer-dryer with cyber features. I tried using it and it sucked. The washer-dryer haf a hard time connecting to wifi. I deleted the app and thankfully the machine works just fine.

I repaired my older, bought used LG dryer. $15 bucks for a replacement high temp sensor that had failed. Took 20 minutes to pull sheet metal off with 1 size of Phillips head sheet metal screw.

I paid for a "lifetime ad-free" version of Muzio Player, and ... well, the software developer sells out to some investment firm (Red Sky Labs ... I don't know about you; to me this sounds decidedly villain-y), and they do the Vader move and tell me to pray that they won't alter the deal more.

https://wiki.rossmanngroup.com/wiki/Red_Sky_Labs_Muzio_Player_Premium_post-purchase_terms_change

Their idea was a $7.- weekly subscription just to stay ad-free. I don't know what these guys are smoking, but no MP3 player, no matter how good it is at just playing local files stored on local memory is worth $364.-, let alone per year.

The new ad-free player is more basic, I lost my playlists but nothing else, so .... what's left to do is to pray for their agonizing and slow death, I guess.
