Ah the Olympics where they now have the domestic violence sport, how bad can a man beat a woman?  And they don't even have to worry about being arrested!

Why do you expect anything new out of Warner Brothers Discovery? Seriously? They've managed to make even the DC universe boring and milquetoast.

🤨

A couple of years back SO MUCH stuff was interesting: did litter-mates hang together? Were those sharks genetically related? What populations worldwide were linked genetically?  Did all those litters of sharks have the same  parents year after year? If that's true, how do they meet up year after year? Where did they range to? How do they feed in the wild on food that don't require them to leap into the air? How do they act when they're being themselves, and not wigged out by blood and chum? So many interesting tidbits touched upon last season, now forgotten--now the old familiar divers and underwater photographers have been pushed to the side by new personalities (many 'stunning and brave'), but on the upside they've minimized some of the more annoying characters.

Bret is THAT dude. Such an intellectual powerhouse. And he avoids mindless partisanism.

I actually like the idea of the Olympics and many of the sports. I just hate the financial and political baggage that got attached to it.

The ORIGINAL Olympics were a mechanism for primarily soldiers from various kingdoms to compete without politics. The modern resurrection sadly happened during the late 19C imperialism sweepstakes. Thus grouping athletes by flag. Politics baked in.

I continue to wonder if women are going to get radicalized by this stuff or keep cowering in submission to "current thing".

There was a much earlier revival that has been largely airbrushed out of history, though happily seems to still be going strong. It seems to have been the Olympic ideal, lots of people farting around having a laugh for no consquence. Not surprisingly the Puritans didnt approve.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cotswold_Olimpick_Games

Events included horse-racing, coursing with hounds, running, jumping, dancing, sledgehammer throwing, fighting with swords and cudgels, quarterstaff, shin-kicking, and wrestling. Booths and tents were erected in which games such as chess and cards were played for small stakes, and abundant food was supplied for everyone who attended. A temporary wooden structure called Dover Castle was erected in a natural amphitheatre on what is now known as Dover's Hill, complete with small cannons that were fired to begin the events.

The games took place on the Thursday and Friday of the week of Whitsun, normally between mid-May and mid-June. Many 17th-century Puritans disapproved of such festivities, believing them to be of pagan origin, and they particularly disapproved of any celebration on a Sunday or a church holiday such as Whitsun. By the time of King James's death in 1625, many Puritan landowners had forbidden their workers to attend such festivities; the increasing tensions between the supporters of the king and the Puritans resulted in the outbreak of the English Civil War in 1642, bringing the games to an end.

I have to say, Shin kicking and card games really should be reintroduced as an Olympic sport....

No I dont think they are going to knuckle under, its really pissed a lot of people off, not just women. You go on twitter now and lots of women are saying 'You know, JK Rowling has a point'. Feminism doesnt HAVE to be inclusive when it comes to sports. They are fully entitled to write their own exceptions.

Some fairly successful Olympic athletes are now dropping into the fray on social media  saying 'if we dont do something about this, we are going to lose womens sports.' And they are right. Its not about whether you support trans rights or not, its about whether you want to see womens sports survive against people gaming the system by playing with gender titles. Its really that simple, and after seeing that poor girl getting her nose broke, its now being presented as Domestic violence as an Olympic sport.

Whats even worse, the International boxing association had already banned these two individuals from boxing over just the same concerns that have become apparent. They wrote a very stern letter to the Olympics authorities, demanding to know why they didnt do the same.

And that is even not a current thing. The person from Algeria was born a female with female genitals but carrying XY genes This happens rarely but, does happen naturally. So while the person should not be allowed to compete with XX women, the person still has nothing in common with the mental illness that is today considered as trans.

Yes, and thats perfectly true. But it is related to that topic in that it demonstrates a williness on the part of authorities to ignore the realities of differences in bodily strength ,for reason that must surely be to provide spectacle (or just maybe backhanders). Lets not forget, the IBA has Lightweight and heavyweight belts So clearly they ARE able to provide distinctions in bodyweight or strength, even if the Olympics are not.

If someone does have genetic abnormalities, it surely is not reasonable to have them compete with anyone other than people with the same absnormalities. And that is a view that, like it or not, certainly does apply to trans. If they cant get something as basic as this right, why do we assume they are going to do better against anything thats politically loaded? And they arent.

Hang on, are you sure it's with female genitals or outwardly female genitals? That's not the same things. By my understanding she grew up looking like a girl but had a penis that was inverted, ie not dropped and testicles that were internal. Thus she had the benefit of far higher bone and muscle density just as a kid sitting around playing computer games than a driven female athlete would have.

This is why the failing grade for the US Army PT test for men is right at the absolute best for the women's PT Test scores.

Can you cite the specific  condition for greater clarity?

And correct on the atypicality of the trans condition in this case. My first experience with transgender issues was with this very sort of case in High School with a classmate I was not familiar with, but we, the students were all given brief on the issue and were told that any taunting of the student over the issue would have been dealt with ruthlessly. It was a true medical condition and I didn't and do not think it the same as someone with autoerotic gynophilia.

If you don't get the meme, there's a thing going around the Intertubes where people are claiming the Turkish shooter is a professional hitman.

At the risk of sounding sordid, there is a photograph that seems to show she is packing. Ill say no more than that.I dont know that its true, it may be a fabrication,, but it seems its a possiblity.

She may have been born as a female and raised as a female. Doesnt follow she has a right hook like a female, and thats the problem here.

There is doubt about the authenticity of the claim that the boxer has a chromosome abnormality.

It's deeply tied in with the removal of the IBA as the IOC's boxing authority so should be considered likely to be tainted by politics.

I'm surprised that the two could be matched together by bodyweight Are they both in the top weight category?
