Tim Sielbeck Posted July 27 Posted July 27 No. I lost interest years ago when NBC thought it was all about how the games were covered rather than the actual competitions.
NickM Posted July 27 Posted July 27 I always thought the March in of the nation's represented the best of humanity. That being said, I'm pissed that Spielberg did the intro-- I've long since started to consider as an emotional manipulator

I actually want to watch it, even though there is a lot that is clownshoes.
Stuart Galbraith Posted July 27 Posted July 27 I dont know as I will watch much of the sports, but I always watch the opening ceremony. I always regard that as just paying tribute to nation concerned. I think it was probably too big and far ranging to be really effective, largely made for television. But there were bits of it, not least the parkour, Lady Gaga's act, the Minions, homages to Victor Hugo's work, that were really rather good indeed. What let it down was some of the sound arrangement, and it was pissing down with rain. Well its Europe, what you gonna do? Clearly they were trying to outdo the London 2012 opening. But can you really outdo the Queen parachute assaulting the ceremony whilst accompanied by Jame Bond? I think not.
Tim the Tank Nut Posted July 27 Posted July 27 the one in the middle, what sport does it play? Competitive eating?

rmgill Posted July 27 Posted July 27 Well it has a great deal of parallels with the Hunger Games capitol trash.
Roman Alymov Posted July 27 Posted July 27 Pro-Russians are happy Russia was not present on this ceremony, if this word could be used to describe that.
Murph Posted July 27 Posted July 27 No. I am not watching the gayest olympics ever (their description, not mine). Nor will I, since they seemed determined to mock my faith. France is a laughing stock right now except among the child molesting leftists. And apparently there is so much blow back that the Olympics and NBC are sending DCMA take down notices to everyone showing the leftwing Christian hating opening. They are scared they have annoyed to many people.

The problem is, this very opening ceremony that was so widely cited as one of the best, is a reknowned Socialist (He even refused an honour for the effort), and was depricated at every turn by Conservatives at the time, whom claimed the entire ceremony was an effort to show the victory over the working class over Socialism. Which is a novel take, which I suspect few abroad noted. It illustrates to me how increasingly people take what they observe as some kind of social commentary against them personally, and overlay their own perceptions on them. And opening ceremonies certainly are intended as social commentary, but it doesnt mean it was intended to show the victory of wokism over the forces of law and order which many here take from it. It certainly wasnt a 'Gayrympics', whatever the hell that means. Yes, there was certainly Gay and transvestite people in it. But so what? They do actually exist. Are they supposed to be airbrushed to not offend people? You all focus on the transvestites, and ignore the considerably greater number of female dancers from the Follies Bergere. To me it looked a ceremony that had a lot of good ideas, a lot of bad ones, and no central figure putting their foot down firmly saying 'no'. But maybe that in itself is a commentary on modern France, and to that respect it succeeded exceptionally well. Most tellingly, there was a lot of viewers wishing Danny Boyle had taken the helm, so it would have been a lot more coherent. https://www.express.co.uk/showbiz/tv-radio/1928658/paris-olympics-danny-boyle-opening-ceremony-london-2012-better Edited July 28 by Stuart Galbraith

sunday Posted July 28 Posted July 28 (edited) I do not know for sure if an act of God or a protest by disgruntled EDF technicians, but... Meet Thomas Jolly, the person in charge of that ceremony. Edited July 28 by sunday
Peasant Posted July 28 Posted July 28 That massive yellow hand makes it look like a meme. "Check out DEEZE NUT(s)!"
Murph Posted July 28 Posted July 28 Yes, Stuart but it had HM The Queen, one of the classier British monarchs, as well as the Admiral at the end. Like or dislike her, you have to admit the Queen had class.
Stuart Galbraith Posted July 28 Posted July 28 I know people who are not monarchists but liked her. Oh, and I thought this was somewhat amusing. Maybe a comment about not bringing politics into sport.

You’re too woke to care.
