Ivanhoe Posted April 5 Posted April 5 https://nypost.com/2024/04/05/us-news/earthquake-rocks-nyc-tri-state-area/ Quote A rare earthquake rocked the New York area Friday morning, shaking buildings and sending terrified residents into the streets as it rattled parts of the Big Apple, Connecticut and New Jersey — the first time a major temblor hit the city since 2011. The preliminary 4.8-magnitude earthquake struck near Lebanon, New Jersey, around 10:23 a.m., according to the US Geological Survey. I'm not expecting too much permanent structural damage in the bigger buildings. Those skyscrapers in the NY metroplex have astounding foundations, down in the bedrock.
rmgill Posted April 5 Posted April 5 Bunch of coworkers were talking about them on meetings this morning. They described it as if a low flying airliner was passing over or construction work was happening right on top of them. Theres a bunch of faults all along the mountain ranges there. Probably from the Pennsylvanian Orogeny.
Ivanhoe Posted April 5 Author Posted April 5 Amusingly, Trenton is roughly the same distance from Lebanon NJ as NYC, and Newark is closer than NYC. Yet no mention of those cities on the news. That has nothing to do with their demographics, of course.
LT Ducky Posted April 5 Posted April 5 I was on the phone with my son when it happened, we’re in SE Pennsylvania about 35 miles North of Philadelphia. We are about 4 miles apart and there is an active rock quarry between us. When it first started I thought it was the quarry setting off a much larger blast than normal (I usually don’t notice) but it went on for 8-10 seconds and it rattled the windows in the house - a 200 year old farmhouse with old wooden windows that a good wind can rattle. Noise wise it was like very heavy distant thunder. The dogs did not like it.

We should meet up next time I am in the region. The Humber is up in Lansdale. We could meet up with a certain intel type to drink a beer or three.
Stuart Galbraith Posted April 6 Posted April 6 Majorie Taylor Greene was blaming the Trump indictments and God threatening the end of days in retaliation. Or something like that. Id keep her away from any hot stoves and bunnies. Im glad nobody was hurt. I get why you are all shook up. We had one in the Cotswolds about 20 years ago, and it was one of the most unpleasant experiences ive ever had. It was almost as if you could see a wave passing through the room.

Stuart, speaking as an atheist, the god fearing folk who built both of our nations speak metaphorically and are far better around tools like stoves than liberals who expect we can be net zero on carbon emissions by 2030.
Stuart Galbraith Posted April 7 Posted April 7 (edited) Without wishing to deflect the thread, your flaw I think is in believing MTG believes in anything other than her own preeminence. Ill leave it there, we havent had a Tanknet earthquate thread in a long while, perhaps thankfully. Edited April 7 by Stuart Galbraith
rmgill Posted April 7 Posted April 7 You know, I'm kinda ok with the old fashioned "god's wrath folks". I'm less ok with the supposedly science based folks who think that Global Warming is responsible for earth quakes and volcanic eruptions.

sunday Posted April 8 Posted April 8 Quake related - the impact of quakes on TSMC operations. Interesting mitigating measures they have in place.
Corinthian Posted April 8 Posted April 8 The NJ earthquake was the result of moving USS NJ to a dry dock. Her weight caused the Earth's crust under where she was docked to compress for so many years, so when she was transferred to a dry dock the resulting rebound of the Earth's crust created tremors that, multiplied by her awesomeness factor of 20, resulted into the M4.8 earthquake in NJ.
Ivanhoe Posted April 8 Author Posted April 8 I'm pretty sure the real cause was Lizzo tripping and falling.

For an athiest, you are leaving it a little late to become all spiritual. Besides, even Greens have their own goddess these days. You know Edge of Darkness, Gaia is a thing. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaia_hypothesis (ah sunday beat me to it, the old hippy).
Stuart Galbraith Posted April 8 Posted April 8 I suspect the real reason was the Reptillians staged the earthquate, to distract from the Royal familys displeasure at the screening of 'Scoop' on Netflix. We must be protected from more Royal Family drama for the planets future safety.

Gaia? Some pagan fundamentals or all three?

If course Charles turns out a right cunt in the same series. Has he made you lot put thatched roofs on everything yet?
Stuart Galbraith Posted April 8 Posted April 8 The sad truth is, only people in the 50's or older are going to get that.
