Considering that a good part of the Internet is built on pets, lying about the threats on that protected species could be akin to political suicide. Then there are that number of human females that find abortion of human babies fine, but do not tolerate any misdemeanor against their fluffy children substitutes.

Another catchy tune

Only people upset are those that believe in "OMG, we put lives of our soldiers at first place". mantra by politicians. No, they do not, and neither does military, since no military can function by putting "lives of soldiers" at first place. It is always "mission first".

The US Army is clearly in garrison mode. The mission is no longer crushing America's enemies nor deterring bad people from doing bad things, its other weird stuff.

I watched a Tiktok video of a soldier using a crutch mowing a grass patch. I guess he had gone to sick call too often for the tastes of his NCOs. So another non-deployable created. One of my former students was a Signal soldier who had suffered a broken hip during a FX. He stayed in, his profile basically said no running and minimal walking. He went to some school where the senior NCO said "everybody runs, there are no profiles here" which resulted in the hip socket fracturing after about 50 yards. Medical discharge for my guy, no discipline for the NCO.

I am going to guess that if we tallied all the times American politicians declared "no blood or treasure" the same politicians also later demanded DOD "do something" when horror stories appeared on TV. Of course, for POTII, almost every one has gone into their first term planning on rectifying mostly domestic problems, but 3 months in they are foreign-policy-wonking like a mofo.

I think the first POTUS to do that was Woodrow Wilson. He was re-elected in 1916 for a second term on the slogan "he kept us out of the war". Compare that with Teddy Roosevelt brokering a peace agreement to end the Russo-Japanese War.

Yea, I’m sure that’s a long list, and definitely involved people who love China.

Disney among others. I didn't say they loved China, but that they love Chinese money

My own view, if the US had sent 1000 tanks and Atacms at the start, the war would be over now, and the US would have a new client state for weapons sales for the next 40 years. Instead of complaints about the costs, you would be all applauding the business opportunity for us contractors.

Are you starting to understand now?  There is no desire to end the war, to do so would be to slaughter the cash cow.

I think Josh has touched on how NC was the smallest win for Trump back in '20 and given demographic changes since then it's even younger with more D voters.  As such everyone now considers that state a toss-up.  If Harris wins NC there's a very good chance she wins the Presidency.

If that happens the question will be how much blame falls on MAGA voters for pushing forward a terrible candidate for governor, who's had a history of issues long before this recent one, for no other quality than he's a Trump diehard.  Nothing, literally nothing, was learned from the disaster of '22...

Robinson won’t appear at Trump’s North Carolina rally after report on online posts, AP sources say

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — North Carolina Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson will not appear at former President Donald Trump ’s rally on Saturday in the battleground state following a CNN report about Robinson’s alleged disturbing online posts, an absence that illustrates the liability the gubernatorial candidate poses for Trump and downballot GOP candidates.

...

Robinson has been a frequent presence at Trump’s North Carolina campaign stops. The Republican nominee has referred to Robinson, who is Black, as “Martin Luther King on steroids” and long praised him. But in the wake of Thursday’s CNN report, the Trump campaign issued a statement that didn’t mention Robinson and instead spoke generally about how North Carolina was key to the campaign’s efforts.

YEARS ago, the Rush Dude (tm) had a parody song to the tune of 'Man Eater' by Hall and Oates called "Dog Eater" (I think Filipino dietary choices were in the news at the time)

Apparently most of his senior campaign staff realized, "are we the baddies?"  🤣

Nearly all of Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson's campaign staff quits after CNN report

Days after a CNN report about racist and sexual comments posted on a pornography forum, all but a few of Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson's campaign team quit their jobs on Sunday.

A campaign news release said that four top staffers have left the campaign: Conrad Pogorzelski, general consultant and senior advisor who's worked for Robinson since his initial 2020 lieutenant governor campaign; Chris Rodriguez, campaign manager; Heather Whillier, finance director; and Jason Rizk, deputy campaign manager.

But WUNC has confirmed that other staffers have quit as well, leaving Robinson with just three people working on his campaign — two campaign spokesmen and a bodyguard. The list of departures also include longtime director of operations Patrick Riley and political directors John Kontoulas and Jackson Lohrer.

All the pundits this weekend were stating that Rs, both in NC and nationally, have written off this campaign as a loss.  The question is will that effect Trump's chances?  if Harris wins NC her chances of winning the Presidency shoot up exponentially.  Several weeks ago Trump's campaign was spending something like 80% of all their ad revenue in just GA and PA because if he won those two states he basically wins the election.  NC takes PA off the table as the key state, and there's doubt Trump can afford to match D spending in NC.

Baddies? How many Chinese spies? Seems like Robinson has a rather large prurient streak and a rather bad sense of taste and decorum. But framing it as baddies? Hey, maybe he could be locking people in their homes while he's out at drug crazed sex parties.

Before I got my US citizenship I went to CT DMV to renew my driver's license. With my Spanish passport in her hand, the DMV lady offered me a voter's registration form.

I'd like to be charitable and think she was distracted.

I watched last week's V.P. debate. Vance clearly won, but didn't score a knock out. And to most people the V.P. debate is only interesting if you are a political junkie.

Watching the presidential and V.P. debates in my view Trump, Harris and Walz are all weird. Vance wins as the "most normal".

Harris & Walz are the same age. Walz looks at least ten years older than Harris.

One recent trend I've seen in local ads, the Democrats are actually using the word ABORTION. Not pro choice, not reproductive rights or "a woman's right to choose" or "a woman's right to control her own body". I wonder if market research is telling them this is the best approach?

For instance, in my county (Hamilton County Ohio) we have a Republican District Attorney. She is very experienced and well liked by the cops. Many of the cops are unhappy with some of the Democrat judges who have let some pretty dangerous accused criminals out with low or no bail.

20 years ago this was a reliably Republican county. Now it is trending Democrat due to demographic changes.

The Democratic challenger isn't a hard left Soros type. She has a moderate to slightly liberal record in the  Ohio House of Reps. She has no experience as a prosecutor. She even let her law license laps at one time. Based on the political leanings of the county she has a good chance to win.

In the Democratic challengers attack ads the main theme is that the Republican will prosecute women and care givers for having abortions. And again they use the word abortion.

This is not the only race I've heard the main line of attack being that the Republican will ban abortion.

BTW Ohio is Republican dominated and somewhat conservative. Yet last year it passed a constitutional amendment allowing abortions up to 21 weeks.

Biden has the opportunity to do the funniest thing now. :D

Journos frequently clutch their pearls when POTUS and VPOTUS aren't getting along, but it is the norm not the exception.

I've no doubt the Obama vs. Hillary thing got pretty spicy at times.

I think Kamala could use the 25th Amendment in case things got too hairy.

Quote

Section 4
Whenever the Vice President and a majority of either the principal officers of the executive departments or of such other body as Congress may by law provide, transmit to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives their written declaration that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, the Vice President shall immediately assume the powers and duties of the office as Acting President.

Thereafter, when the President transmits to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives his written declaration that no inability exists, he shall resume the powers and duties of his office unless the Vice President and a majority of either the principal officers of the executive department or of such other body as Congress may by law provide, transmit within four days to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives their written declaration that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office. Thereupon Congress shall decide the issue, assembling within forty-eight hours for that purpose if not in session. If the Congress, within twenty-one days after receipt of the latter written declaration, or, if Congress is not in session, within twenty-one days after Congress is required to assemble, determines by two-thirds vote of both Houses that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, the Vice President shall continue to discharge the same as Acting President; otherwise, the President shall resume the powers and duties of his office.
