German frigate intercepts drones

...using the 76mm gun and RIM-116 system. That's way closer than the normal US interceptions. Is this the first combat use of SeaRam?

Well they first fired two SM-2 at an earlier target, both of which missed due to what was subsequently determined to have been a technical problem on the ship's side, and fixed. As it turned out, the target was an American MQ-9 which the US hadn't bothered to announce to allied forces in the area, so in a way the misses were lucky. But you can kinda see why they would prefer to engage at shorter range after that.

Wasn't there an almost identical 'lesson learned' from the Seawolf in the Falklands?  That's some mighty fine missile development work there, Lou.

Was this one then intercepted by RAM or by the 76 ?

Edit: from jane's it is implied to have been by the 76mm

The first kill was with 76mm, the second with RAM.
