My week from hell shows that the Britain we love and trust is gone.

Ok, a few things that we cant grasp because the Torygraph article is behind a paywall. Alison pearson is a columnist that, from a programme I saw several years ago, seemed to have  level head on her shoulders. Im sure she still does.

She wrote a tweet about October 7th. It was then at some point deleted.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cev9nxnygzpo

According to a BBC report,

In her article, Pearson said that when police visited her, she did not know what post on X that the complaint was about, but that "a year ago, I was consumed with the aftermath of the Oct 7 attacks by Hamas" and slogans brandished at pro-Palestinian marches.

The BBC has seen the now-deleted post that the police complaint relates to, which dates from 16 November last year. It shows an image of two police officers standing next to two men holding what appears to be a flag of the Pakistani political party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

The post tags the Metropolitan Police alongside the words “how dare they”.

It adds: “Invited to pose for a photo with lovely peaceful British Friends of Israel on Saturday police refused. Look at this lot smiling with the Jew haters.”

X added a notice to the post stating that the image was taken in Manchester, not London, and that it is “not related to Palestine”.

https://news.sky.com/story/police-investigating-criminal-offence-after-daily-telegraph-columnist-dumbfounded-by-social-media-post-probe-13255060

She claimed the officers told her she was being investigated for a NCHI (a non crime hate incident) an incident involving an act which is perceived to be motivated by hostility or prejudice towards persons with a particular characteristic, but is not illegal.

NCHI reports have long been controversial, with many citing free speech concerns, and Ms Pearson's account of the police visit has led to widespread support from Conservatives and online commentators, including Tory leader Kemi Badenoch.

But an Essex Police spokesperson has told Sky News its investigation was never for an NCHI, and that the matter was always being treated as an investigation into an alleged criminal offence of inciting racial hatred.

So the truth is,

No criminal offence occurred.

No criminal charge occurred.

The police overreached themselves and behaved like utter dickheads. Again.

These are all causes for concern, but it hardly supports the thesis that Britain isnt a country where you cant complain when she has complained incessently about it, quite rightly, and not been charged for it.

Its all very well Conservatives coming to support her. These were the dozy sods that put this legislation in place.

Making baseless accusations of anti-Semitism is something to be cherished?

"Jew haters" tweet
In November 2024, Pearson was visited at home by Essex Police asking her to undergo a voluntary interview after a complaint that she had incited racial hatred with a tweet posted in November 2023. During a period of scrutiny on British policing of pro-Palestinian protests during the Israel–Hamas war, Pearson had posted a photo of Greater Manchester Police officers standing besides supporters of former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party waving the party's flag. However, despite the flag including the word "Pakistan", she called the flagbearers "Jew haters" and misidentified the officers as Metropolitan Police officers, citing an incident where that service had not met with an Israeli-advocacy group. These errors were corrected by a Community Note and Pearson deleted the tweet.[15][16]

Also, I could not find any opinion by Ms. Pearson on this.

A German man named Stefan Niehoff used a parody of a shampoo advertisement to put forward the view on Twitter that Germany’s Minister of Economic Affairs and Climate Action, Robert Habeck, was a moron – or a “Schwachkopf” in the original German.

That did not please Mr Habeck. As has become customary for German government ministers since the Covid pandemic, he decided to retaliate against an ordinary citizen who had mocked him by filing a criminal complaint against Mr Niehoff for “hate crime”, and arranging for two cops to turn up at the latter’s house at six fifteen one morning.

Quote

As of August 2024, he had filed 805 such charges – well over half of the total raised by all cabinet ministers since September 2021 combined. Most of the rest (513) were brought by his fellow Green, the Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock.

More here. includes also the German authorities engaging in Orwellian behavior about an older post of that German citizen   https://www.samizdata.net

French TV Channel Fined for Calling Abortion the World’s Leading Cause of Death

Quote

(...)The French media regulator has fined the conservative channel CNews €100,000 for, during a Catholic programme, saying that abortion is the world’s leading cause of death. The episode reveals the extent to which the debate on abortion is deadlocked in France.

In February 2024, presenter Aymeric Pourbaix, during the Catholic programme “En quête d’esprit,” broadcast every Sunday on the conservative channel CNews, showed an infographic on the causes of death, ranking abortion as the leading cause, with 73 million deaths each year worldwide. That translates to 52% of annual deaths, far ahead of cancer (10 million) and smoking (6.2 million).

The journalist’s comments sparked a wave of indignation in the mainstream press, on the grounds that abortion cannot be considered a “cause of death” because the foetus should not be considered a living being.(...)
