It is an interesting change of pace. I wonder though if they wiil actually go through with it.

It's kind of funny, because ova here, there has been pushback against NCO academy because other armies don't seem to need them. Thing here is that, to become a Sargeant, a candidate needs to go through 3 years of academy with stringent entry requirements, whichs limits the numbers of NCOs and may leave out the more solidierly types less inclined to study so it's "unfair"

I think that in the ever changing technical world weapons (and the tactical changes when new weapons appear) are getting more and more difficult for the average private soldier to understand, especially if they do not have good GCSE's (exam taken when your 16) which is quite common for people joining the army.

In the UK army, recuiters like to recuit confident men and women rather than focusing on exam grades. Maybe things are changing.

Darned wheeled deathtraps.

If people cast their minds back a bit, MBDA has been developing a box launcher for Brimstone for quite a while - recall the Milrem tracked autonomous vehicles, even the somewhat silly Streetfighter concept had one. Aside from the Wolfram and the Ottokar platforms, there's also a concept for a Boxer module. Now that really is "under armour" rather than "perched on top".

Also, since I spoke of the Kongsberg RWS, it and many others can be configured with various armaments, so just because there's a Javelin mounted on one at an Expo doesn't mean it's being procured with that in mind.
