True although it was just a subject that was brought up.  Thankfully logic prevailed and they kept all aviation regiments tied to aviation.

Only the U.S. Army would think to lump the lineage of aviation and tank destroyer elements together...

As you probably know, but others may not, the linkage of aviation and tank destroyer was not a serious proposal by the Army, but apparently the idea submitted by one CPT. At the time, Aviation was just becoming a stand-alone branch, and not a secondary skill set where individuals were seconded from a basic branch. The proposal, apparently, was to highlight the anti-tank capabilities of the Apache (which was also coming into service at around the same time) separately from the rest of the branch instead of focusing on the commonality (they all fly) across the branch.

Alternately, linking aviation to tank destroyers makes a much sense as linking it to horse cavalry :D

In his tank destroyer videos, Manic Moran has pointed out that Apaches, given their primary mission as tank hunters, are essentially the airborne successors to TDs.
