BansheeOne
Well they have of course taken an actual 1944-built Do-24 and put new wings, engines, cockpit and landing gear on it to become the ATT demonstrator.
Stuart Galbraith
Gorgeous. Saw a spanish one of these in Hendon in 1980, I still think its one of the most handsome flying boats ever made.
Yama
Dornier really nailed down the flying boats by 1920/30s. In my opinion, Dornier Do J Wal is not only of the greatest flying boats of all time, it is among the greatest aircraft of all time.
Stuart Galbraith
They really loved that incinerated engine arrangement, didn't they? They did the same with the 335.

Ivanhoe
I'm afraid I don't see the beauty in that Orca design. Now the interwar Dorniers, that's a different story. The Л-65 is damned sexy.

Yes, Dornier seems to have got it working better than the others. I don't remember many other flying boats using that configuration. Without the jets coming in, Do-335 might have heralded the future of piston-engined designs, instead of being just a curiosity.

Sardaukar
Japanese seem to believe in flying boats in ASW/SAR role: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shin_Meiwa_US-1A https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ShinMaywa_US-2 China also have this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AVIC_AG600 Edited August 2 by Sardaukar
