I know lots of people are taking pleasure in this turn of events... or just laughing at it... and that's perfectly understandable. However, I find it pretty terrifying, if I'm honest. Hope Russia's strategic forces are being looked after responsibly while everything else goes to shit.

I agree, this is bad, really bad.  I am not sure there is any upside to this.

Only for Joe and Hunter Biden, as a Civil War in Russia will distract the American public from their crimes.

With you as a self appointed recorder to remind them?  Perish the thought.......

Oh yes there is.

As bonus, some instant sunshine might rise from east.

This was one of my favourite Twitter posts of the day. So have mercy.

Haters gonna hate, until the instant sunshine they want for others incinerates them also.

On nuclear weapons, I'm sure it's actually on most people's mind. But apart from obvious partisan satisfaction and the straight historic entertainment value - so much conventional wisdom about Russia has been dispelled in the last years:

- Russia is a rational actor which wants peace.

- Russia is a military juggernaut which will roll over any neighbor countries within days.

- We cannot support Ukraine, because it would mean war with Russia.

- Russia will never fall because the government has an iron grip on everyone, is not hindered by liberal weakness and Western decadence, the sanctions are useless, and Russians are used to suffering.

Suddenly, and maybe dangerously, the last dogma seems to be reasonably fit to be put to the test of reality: That civil war in a nuclear power is a Bad Thing.

The situation is sub optimal.

it seems to me Prigozhin was always angling to replace Putin but suddenly had his time schedule moved up. Maybe there was an assassination attempt, maybe his forces were going to be removed, or maybe Wagner was just going to be committed to action and his window of opportunity was closing. But it seems unlikely that Prigozhin thought the time was right and more probable he felt he was about to be sidelined, removed, or killed.

I think there is little hope of success; it would require a lot of MoD cooperation. I don’t particularly have a side to root for in this scenario.

It's distracted everyone from Harry and Megan?

This was quite funny.

Well, fairly clearly Russias nuclear weapons are already in the hands of bandits, so no change there then. :)

Prigozhin so far:  we are here to eiminate lies, corruption and bad management of RU military and go forward towards the victory.  We want to deal with "bad boyars": Shoigu, Gerasimov.  No naming Putin so far.  This would presume a possibility of some kind of accommodation if it would not be for the Putin's speech.

There was no mass violence (Ahmat forces arrived at Rostov) so far...

Most people who have seen stressful situations (combat, accidents etc.) develope bit "twisted" sense of humour. It is a coping mechanism and still, very funny too ;)

Kind of like RUC officer who had lost his arm in bomb attack and had it replaced with mechanical one...so obviously lads gave him can of WD-40 as b-day present.... :D

Dark humor is common if not universal among EMTs and firefighters.

The English term is "gallows humor."

Another unit allegedly sides with Wagner

Rybar said that the video is probably a fake because they noticed a few discrepancies and I quote:

"Since the early 2000s, Airborne troops have been armed with AK-74Ms, but more recently with AK-12s. The AK-74s on the photo here are the old-style AK-74s, long removed from service."

And then: "Only units of the 98th division are now on the front line and counterattack, and they certainly don't have time to sit in offices with yellow walls."

Still it is possible that units from other areas are feeling uncertain about what's to come, so the allegiances could change

That or perhaps he just wanted to seem more reasonable in the eye of the public, i.e. "I only wanted to remove Shoigu and Gerasimov, not Putin, but he gave me no choice." In any case, he's crossed the Rubicon, and there's probably no going back now...

It is Russian classic for "bad boyars vs. good czar", reason to excuse everything for centuries.

Toi add, they just cannot help themselves, it's always someone else to blame, instead of looking at the mirror.
