earlier with trump sending signals about seizing the panama canal and the press or pundits or politicians all pointing to some insanity in it but there is a logic to what the administration may be thinking when you connect the dots:

these moves pointing towards venezuela which would deprive china from strategic positions in the western hemisphere- such as the oil and which would secure resources for the united states which europe lacks and cannot provide for itself

there is no way that is about drug cartels

then you change the department of defense to department of war

these signals all look connected within the greater scope of the war in europe and spilling over into the strategic framework vis a vis competition with china and brics and the global south pulled into this  orbit

in particular china which is far more of a strategic threat to the united states than russia no matter what happens in ukraine

even with the war in ukraine settled no matter the outcome the west has problems

you see the high debt loads abd high inflation and risky economies in the west

we continue to obsess over harming russia while ignoring crumbling infrastructure in cities in the united states and in europe and having all sorts of internal political and social problems

because europe is going to have a problem with what to do with whatever is left of ukraine afterwards- absorbing whatever is remaining while dealing with their own economic and political problems

this whole business about harming russia has harmed europe in the process

these leaders in the west have done all of this in the name vanity to somehow make themselves heroes in the story rather than actually understanding what they were messing with particularly as they do not even seem to be in the position to handle their own  problems let alone someone else's

trump seems to be forward looking about this post war configuration by pulling out of ukraine and leaving it to the europeans

the question is then whether you see some fundamental changes in europe in all of this because what do they tell their public when there is nothing to show for it other than the burden that they have imposed on themselves

that is assuming it does not get a lot more destructive

you get macron deciding to go rogue or go in there with the british and who knows what could happen

The war in the Ukraine is a gift for the US. As long as the US does not aid the Ukraine, the EU and Russia will tire each other out, which takes away 2 global competitors.

Hmm... I don't know if it's such a good strategy. The EU is completely subservient to the US. Weakening it only means your lackey is weaker and can help you less. But hey, Uncle Sam knows what he's doing; he didn't become the sole superpower by being stupid.

The EU is an enemy as bad as China. It just pretends to be friendly but it has the US screwed over more than any other power.

Ukrainian forces struck Russia's Ryazan oil refinery overnight, reportedly scoring multiple hits on the facility.

Seen here, Russia's 5th-largest refinery can be seen burning on the horizon.

...It's like the Kerch railway bridge, its open, but just try using it.

It is used.

With tonnage restrictions and a severe speed limit. Most of their freight now seems to go via Southern Ukraine for that reason.

What's that you say Skippy?

That the railway they built to end the reliance on a single bridge is working?

That measures put in place to prevent hopeless Russian truckers being duped into certain death by shipping tons of explosive over  the bridge are working?

That you can't accept that your self-declared war-winning supper-duper unstoppable plan to isolate Crimea by destroying the bridge is no longer a viable option?

Gosh Skippy  you sure are a silly  bush kangaroo!

Maybe you didn't hear  that it cant carry bugger all, and that at restricted line speed to the point they have barely used it since the attack.

Yes, well I'd much rather be a sheep snagging Kangaroo than a Walter Duranty apologist for genocide.

What' s that you say Skippy?

The vital bridge that is needed to keep Crimea supplied is not being used to supply Crimea?

So then Skippy, when did Crimea collapse?

I think he was comparing the utility of the bridge to the utility of the port being open - the port maybe functioning but it is less clear oil is being transferred to ships, the interruption of which was the main goal. I do not know the ports status, personally.

Even the port is an open question, since the lighthouse that guards the entrance was blown up, possibly by Russian gunfire.

As for the bridge, before the attack it was used by 42 military trains daily. Now it sees only one, presumably because of the speed restrictions. That's nothing more than a ghost bus service.
