RIP Simon. While his one liners maybe for what he is remembered now, it's a great injustice to his contributions in early tanknet, which were numerous and always on target.

Yeah, the early Simon is whom I remember most, he was industrious and clever, and a real asset to the site.

Has anyone told Chris Werb, I think he knew him didnt he?

Ah Crap. I first met him in 2001 when I went to Malaysia to get married and he took us around for sightseeing and food. Then again in 2005. We toured Port Dickson together. Also met up with him at a SHOT show as well. Damm it, I wanted to return the favours when he travelled here again. RIP my friend, I enjoyed the time we spent together.

Hi Guys , spoke to one of his really close friends today and she confirmed that he had passed on because of Covid related complications . It happened very rapidly i am told with ST succumbing to it in just 3 days :( . Met him 3 times previously .Very bright and very generous too . Covid in its active stages prevented us from meeting more frequently  though we were living in cities about 300 km apart only .

Is there a fund for his family or something? Not sure what are the traditions in that part of the world.

The Chinese traditions are to give small amounts of money at the time  of attending the wake .Given that it is a Covid related death i don't know what the dynamics are in this case .

that's an excellent suggestion

somehow someone I've never met face to face or even heard a voice has been on my mind now for days.  I'm surprised at how hard this has hit.

TankNet really is family

Very much so. I have met at least 10 TN and they are all much nicer in person than on the internet.

Thank you very much, my friend. I could not believe it at first, and I do not use Facebook. Nice to see he kept contact with TNetters that way.

He would have loved to partake in the rijsttafel we had for lunch past Sunday at the NL I&I, for sure.

I met him in Kuala Lumpur during my escapade to South East Asia in 2017. In KL we saw the worthiest sights and museums, tasted a LOT of different types of SE Asia cuisine, and went back to Singapore in order to share some time with Saladin, including a real Chinese dinner, Singapore-style. He was a most gracious host and introduced me to some friends as impressive as him. I left Singapore for Manila in a very nostalgic mood. Of course Dorrick put an end to that mood, but that is another history.

We chat in Whatsapp for last time not so long ago, and he answered to my salutation with a "When are you coming here again?".

I will miss him, for sure.

Requiescat in Pace, Simon Tan.
