Just thought a thread might be interesting given its increasing legality.

Personally I think the legality part is good because potheads tend to be a lot less violent than drunks (and it's objectively a lot healthier for you), but never much liked it myself -- I'm 50 years old and have probably consumed THC-containing substances 20 times in my life, it just makes me want to read a book and fall asleep. Lots of Cali friends (especially middle aged women) swear by it for reducing anxiety etc. Any partakers want to weigh in?

While I have never liked it I know some highly functional potheads, major issue is that today's hybrid sorts are not really old "boomer's" MJ. Way, way stronger.

I also don't like it, tried a few times and the effects were... meh. Too much turmoil inside my head to even read a book afterwards, so just sleeping for me, or at least trying. After alcohol I'm at least still functional.

From a paramedic point of view, I have seen far too many incidents where lack of situational awareness led drivers to wander out of a lane, causing an incident or folk just walking into the road because they want to be on the other side regardless.  Having said that, far too many folk who are not partaking do that so a comparison is a bit more difficult than bald stats.

Yup, a lot of older boomer friends tried pot when it was 'legalized' in Colorado and the difference in strength shocked them. Most became fans of low dose edibles.

For sure -- I'm only 50 years old but if you read any novels from the 1960s, it's like "then hippie protagonist sat under a tree and smoked a joint, and that chilled him out a little." Most of my yuppie lady friends are on the edible team as well.

I’ve literally done acid, coke, and what apparently was was heroin in one weaken just a few years ago. I honestly never liked pot but I occasionally do it to past out. And I’m over 45.

I don’t think restricting drugs works, personally.

Ok, I feel I should explain the heroine, I got drunk at what I realized after the fact was a drug deal gone wrong at a dive bar and my roommate (old married friends from college) grabbed some random shit that I subsequently snorted. I tested positive for opiates after so I assume it was heroin-ish. Honestly, pretty chill. Would not inject though.

I tried pot this spring for the first time. I have been having problems with insomnia and after trying about everything else, my doctor suggested trying pot. I went to one of the local weed dispensaries and bought pot in various forms - disposable vape pen, pills, and chocolate peanut butter cup edibles. I had intended to try each one to see what I liked best. I decided to start with the edibles, which are supposed to be 20mg THC per piece. I ate one and it was the best tasting peanut butter cup I have had. I was on discord talking to friends and I didn't feel anything for about 20 minutes, the next thing I know I am coming too after blacking out still talking on discord to my friends or more babbling nonsense at that point. Time was dilating for me, I felt like time was stopping then starting. Somehow in my intoxicated state I decided going to bed would be the best option and I managed to take my nightly meds then go lay down. I started to get super paranoid, and had this fear I went on social media and started using racial slurs like the nword, which I don't use in real life. I was laying in bed checking my Facebook account over and over again in paranoia. Then my cat was laying next to me and staring at me like I'm the worlds biggest idiot, and that made me even more paranoid. I finally got to sleep, but when I woke up I was still intoxicated and still experiencing time dilation. I was intoxicated for two days. It was such a bad experience I have not touched pot in any form again.

You may have been lucky, as mind disorders after first trying that thing are not unheard of.

Well, in my case it isn't as bad, but I can throw up and then go lie down while having thousand intrusive thoughts a second. So clearly not for me either, I'll stick to alcohol.

Due to severe back pain I have been having the last week., last night I cut an edible into 6ths and ate 1/6ths of it. I had a much better experience this time and my pain has been greatly reduced. The time dilation effects I felt when I at a whole one were massively reduced to the point I barely noticed it, and I did not get paranoid. I only have one kidney and am not supposed to use NSAIDs but still do because it was the only thing that helped with pain, but now I think I am going to replace them almost entirely with pot in some form.
