Josh Posted April 16, 2023 Author Posted April 16, 2023 Ok, update, Copenhagen, Stockholm, Tallin, and Helsinki. Looking for any tips on dive bars, high end restaurants, and military museums.

Sardaukar Posted April 16, 2023 Posted April 16, 2023 If I am not working, might meet you in Helsinki. Missed The Chieftain aka Manic Moran by an inch, so would be nice to meet fellow TNetters. Fancy https://www.mollymalones.fi/ ? My fav drinking place in Helsinki.
Josh Posted April 16, 2023 Author Posted April 16, 2023 Thanks! Will let you know. I’ve never been able to I&E and also never hit Finland. Actually I kinda forced my gf to go, because she wasn’t into it just talking. She’s part swede. And I’m like, well you know what is just across the water…and they just joined nato… ok, not just across the water but your boat doubles as your hotel, so close enough.
Ssnake Posted April 16, 2023 Posted April 16, 2023 Would love to meet you but can't. Tallinn: Turned the old KGB HQ into a KGB museum. Haven't visited it, but it sounded interesting enough. It also has an army museum (Arsenal) with the world's only Battle Sauna cabin on display (at least the last time I visited it). There's also a water plane museum (Lennusadam) Helsinki: The Suomenlinna coastal fortress might be worth a visit (ferry ride required). There's an air-defense museum in Tuusula, about 30min to the north, the museum for military medicine in Lahti, and the artillery museum in Hämeenlinna. Haven't visited any of these. Stockholm: There's the "Armémuseum" with Strv103C and more. The more modern one is "Arsenalen" outside of Strängnäs, pretty much exactly a drive of one hour. Copenhagen: There's the "Krigsmuseet", haven't been to it.
Stuart Galbraith Posted April 16, 2023 Posted April 16, 2023 Josh, perhaps have a look for my Baltic Military district google earth markers, I seem to recall I put a lot in showing Soviet military sites in Tallin and the surrounding area. Might give you a few places to visit on the fly.
Sardaukar Posted April 16, 2023 Posted April 16, 2023 Going to Armour Museum would frankly take 2 days, Finland is pretty large country. Even Suomenlinna would take best part of your day. https://sotamuseo.fi/en/frontpage is pretty good.
bd1 Posted April 16, 2023 Posted April 16, 2023 in Tallinn - military museum is kind of meh and equipment hall is due to space limitations half a km. away but https://meremuuseum.ee/lennusadam/en/ is good , although general maritime, not specificly military. late 1930´s submarine etc. and there was at least last time some artillery and stuff around the museum
Stuart Galbraith Posted April 16, 2023 Posted April 16, 2023 Dont you have a ballistic missile silo in Estonia? SS4. Always fancied visiting that.

I think we will be there on Tuesday the 25th, and I think we catch a boat back to Stockholm late afternoon/early evening, which probably doesn’t allow for anything on a work day. Helsinki was a last minute add on that I wrangled out her literally yesterday (we fly today) and we’re basically just there for an afternoon after Tallin. But let me know. I’ll try that bar either way; thanks!

Sardaukar Posted April 17, 2023 Posted April 17, 2023 (edited) By the way, this is hilarious: https://yle.fi/a/74-20027420 The popular meme channel Very Finnish Problems also weighed in, contrasting Tate's self-proclaimed macho image with his sauna habits. "Andrew Tate: I'm the ultimate Alpha male. Also Andrew Tate: Sits in 50°C sauna on the lowest, children's bench wearing trunks, wrapped in a towel." 😆 Edited April 17, 2023 by Sardaukar
glappkaeft Posted April 17, 2023 Posted April 17, 2023 My haunts are Linköping (on the road/train lines) between Stockholm and Copenhagen. It has the Swedish Airforce Museum which is nice https://flygvapenmuseum.se/om-oss/ https://flygvapenmuseum.se/utstallning/hemliga-handlingar/ about the DC-3 spy plane and Catalina rescue plane shoot down exhibit https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catalina_affair
Rickard N Posted April 17, 2023 Posted April 17, 2023 I'm around Stockholm (don't dare to say I'm IN Stockholm any longer :)). You would probably enjoy the Vasa museum, one of Sweden's biggest failures but a good museum of a large war ship. As for restaurants, it sort of depends of what you're in to. But i suppose Stefan's already filled your schedule cheers /R
Stefan Fredriksson Posted April 18, 2023 Posted April 18, 2023 I have sadly not. I am bad at suggesting other stuff than what haven't already been mentioned. I could use a guided tour myself. Coincidentally I had to pick up an item from other side of town, and walked back through Kungsholmen and Gamla Stan. A day such as this, it is quite a nice town to visit.
glappkaeft Posted April 18, 2023 Posted April 18, 2023 (edited) Punk Royale is certainly a special dinning experience. Available not only in Stockholm but they have opened in Copenhagen (and Oslo) as well. They are probably booked far in advance though and it is definitely not for everyone Edited April 18, 2023 by glappkaeft
Josh Posted April 24, 2023 Author Posted April 24, 2023 Pulling into Tallin tomorrow. Currently watching the kids dance to a techno version of John Denver’s “take me home” at 2:00 am. Never been on a cruise ship before and didn’t realize what I was getting into; not bad but definitely a one night experience. Well, and one night home from Helsinki. breakfast is a couple hours before port and I didn’t realize this would be a deep water cruise ship ten decks tall. If there’s anything on the docks I’ll photograph it, but if it isn’t already in the web I can’t imagine I’ll catch anything special. apparently Tallin has some kind of huge water park /spa that my GF logged us into.
DB Posted April 24, 2023 Posted April 24, 2023 Now, this discussion brings to mind a visit by some Scandy/Baltic types to London, many years ago. Swerve and I met a couple of Red Stripe can-wielding tanknetters, but I'm damned if I can remember who they were.
glappkaeft Posted April 25, 2023 Posted April 25, 2023 If you are into knitted stuff, decorations, ceramics and stuff like that Tallin at least used to be a good and cheap place to buy stuff like that. I haven't been to the Baltic countries for almost 30 years though when my father worked in Riga for a while.
Josh Posted April 25, 2023 Author Posted April 25, 2023 (edited) it isn’t really my thing but I bought some stuff for mom. Edited April 25, 2023 by Josh
