ChuckFan4 Posted February 17, 2023 Posted February 17, 2023 I am doing some scratch building and kit bashing with Meng Gepard and Trumpeter Sp-90 kits to produce a model of the PzH-70. I was not able to find any photos showing what the top of the engine deck of the prototypes looked like. So I will have to deduce the likely engine deck apparence based on the arrangement of the engine itself. PzH-70 was suppose to use a shorted 8 cylinder version of Leopard 2’s MTU-873 engine. But there is no guarantee the air intake and the location and number of radiators would be the same as on the 12 cylinder engine. So does anyone know where I can find any photos of the MTU-871 Ka-501 power pack?
Ssnake Posted February 17, 2023 Posted February 17, 2023 PzH-70 ... you mean, the 155-2? It was designed to use a Leopard 1 hull, so I would use that as a starting point. Then again, I suppose you know more about this than I do. So, assuming that the engine modification you mention was intended, I guess a Leo 2 rear deck may actually be the better starting point.
Old ROF Posted February 17, 2023 Posted February 17, 2023 There is a thread on the Secret Projects (Army) website titled "SP70 / PzH 155-1" Has a number of images of Phase A and B variants. It includes internal and external views, including one of the engine bay. There may be something there to help. Regards
