By the numbers: Disney stock was trading at $133.65 a share when Chapek accused DeSantis of promoting legislation that would "unfairly target gay, lesbian, nonbinary, and transgender kids and families." Disney shares opened at $89.44 and continued to fall on Wednesday ahead of DeSantis's formal entry into the 2024 presidential campaign.

• That's a decline of 33.1 percent in a little over 14 months.

Dark Brandon isn't DeSantis' competition right now, and likely never will be.

So you’re a Trump supporter now?

I think on present evidence, Biden is completely unable to defeat any of the Republican candidates on offer.

Other than Trump, as we have already seen. So by necessity, the Republican party, unable to stand the apparent stress of winning, will nominate Trump.

DeSantis is possibly right of Trump when it comes to 'culture wars'.

I don't think there is much "possibly" to it, Trump is definitely teaming up with the left to attack DeSantis from the left.

Oh, I must have missed that, I was simply referring to the track record of both of them.

It's kind of amusing that DeSantis tried to go more right than Trump...

Trump is populist, he'll stake out any convenient position, even contradictory positions, if he thinks his rhetoric will get him votes.  DeSantis, on the other hand, has been fairly steadfast in his principled beliefs.  So he isn't trying to be anything relative to Trump, he's being who he is.  Trump is the one bouncing left and right.

Trump's record of governance is far less stellar than DeSantis's record of governance. We've seen how both do in doing their jobs.

That is fair-enuff view.

I myself like DeSantis...albeit not sure how he'd steer USA politics.

I’m simply reading the tea leaves. I personally wouldn’t shed a tear if the Trump family died in a house fire, but I suspect he lives to be a hundred.

Bomb India when Salman Rushdie complains about banning books in Florida again? 😁

But the white man already defeated the Indians.

This 'article' (that's being generous) is a perfect example of how one can push an agenda while doing the laziest research possible.  The only way their conclusion could be remotely accurate is if Disney stock was rising or steady at the point this feud began.

For those of us who have heard of this thing called google (unlike the author, apparently) it takes mere seconds to pull up Disney's stock history and expand it back several years.  What one sees is that Disney stock was already on a decline well before this feud started (from it's all time high in Mar '21 or from it's clear decline down in Sep '21, both points are well before this feud began).

You don't need to be a business major to understand why this would have been going on for so long.  COVID saw a spike in a lot of companies' stock price that has been correcting for a while now.  Their streaming service has always been 'meh' (and is still not making money).  Disney has continually dropped the ball with Star Wars and '21 saw a massive drop in quality of Marvel products post Endgame-era.

Their price is now lower than it was pre-COVID and while it's possible the feud is playing some part in that... it's far more likely a former powerhouse entertainment company that hasn't released a solid hit from its own IP in years and has mishandled its two other massive IPs (Marvel and Star Wars) in recent years is being valued at where it should be for basic business reasons.

The BAN in florida is what's allowed in school. You want to own the book, buy it, order it on amazon, knock yourself out. It's really a matter of what's appropraite for kids. Some of those are books are as appropriate for kids as is some fetish zines are for elementary school kids.

Oh, Germany has ZERO room to talk on this front of banning anything.

Okay, here's a more factual phrasing for a valid reason to bomb India: If Salman Rushdie complains again that he has to look at the extraordinary attack on libraries, and books for children in schools, and the attack on the idea of libraries themselves in the United States while also speaking out against the rewriting of older books in modern times to remove language deemed offensive, then following up with expressing pride that PEN America and his publisher Penguin House have brought a lawsuit challenging Florida’s Escambia County school district’s removal of certain books on race and LGBTQ issues from school libraries.

However, the joke gets a bit unwieldy.

Since Trump is getting bit old (both as topic and in person), we now need "Because DeSantis" thread :D

Don't count on it, his GOP nomination seems pretty much guaranteed.
