Dawes Posted February 10, 2023 Posted February 10, 2023 The wave of the future? https://www.defensenews.com/smr/defending-the-pacific/2023/02/09/japan-to-replace-attack-observation-helos-with-drone-fleet/
futon Posted February 11, 2023 Posted February 11, 2023 The OH-6s are at their end. The Cobras have been used alot and now down to half of original amount. Probably some life left in OH-1, but production long gone stopping far short of original procurement plan. AH-64Ds may not have much life left since D model support was cancelled for E model. Only 12. Drones might be just plain cheaper. If attack drones fall short on some ability that manned attack helcopters have, then have to rely on USMC Vipers in the end. Next 10 year cycle of procurement plan and budget may have the spare money for attack helicopter. Current budget increases have a lot to cover.
