Nice to have you too. Dave, Harold, the Best Western is ok with you two?

And someone needs to look for a rental car. We are at almost five participants.

Best western works.  Willing to pitch in gas and a share of the rental but I think we can all agree that things will be better all around if I restrict my driving to the US.

Well, if only two-three car seats are needed, then some medium size car will be enough. Thinking about bringing my car, also.

With Arnheim/Nimwegen being a full day event we have one more place to visit -Fort Bourtange- than I have days off work. I'm confident I could get one or two more but at this time I can't say for sure. So I'd put an alternate schedule up for discussion:

Friday: Start I&I and provided all arrive by 12hrs and feel in shape a visit to the army museum "around the corner" at Soesterberg.

Saturday: Overloon

Sunday: Fort Bourtange

Monday: Arnheim/Nimwegen

Tuesday: Den Helder and possibly end I&I for me.

Wednesday/Thursday: Amsterdam for everyone with the time.

Or we just drop Fort Bourtange and the 2.5 hour drive there. But I'd like Den Helder to be on the last day because I have to drive 3.5 hours home afterwards.

If we manage to fit the Soesterberg visit on the 19th, seems the schedule could be:

  • Friday: Start I&I and provided all arrive by 12hrs and feel in shape a visit to the army museum "around the corner" at Soesterberg. We could depart from Schiphol after leaving luggage in storage. Possible issue: to confirm that everyone could make to the airport by midday, already lunched.
  • Saturday: Overloon
  • Sunday: Fort Bourtange
  • Monday: Arnhem (also Arnheim)/Nijmegen (also Nimwegen and Nimega)
  • Tuesday: Den Helder and possibly end I&I for me.
  • (optional, but no rental car needed) Wednesday: Amsterdam for everyone with the time.
  • (optional, but no rental car needed) Thursday: Amsterdam for everyone with the time.

Where was that post yesterday. I sear not here! 😉

Post was edited. I use to do so in order to avoid several posts in a row. Still thinking about that, but it looks more economical to leave it at home, as there will be additional expenses of a hotel night on every leg of the travel from here to there.

In that case I propose we rather drop Fort Bourtange and it's long drive, do Arnheim/Nijmegen on Sunday and spend time in Amsterdam on Tuesday together. There's got to be interesting stuff in town other than weed.

That could be a good idea, as then we could save one day of car rental (19-22, instead of 19-23), plus there are lots of worthwhile museums in Amsterdam.

Greetings!

Possible health concerns aside, ( either a stent or a bypass), I might be able to make it also. I would then rent a van. Please advise latest date for confirmation of participation.

Home ...

It is possible that by May I will be living in Holland (Apeldoorn). But in any event, I would supply the van. Now that you mention it, it might be better to pick up a rental in Amsterdam and get there by rail.

Seems a van is not needed at the moment, unless Markus wants to leave his car parked at the hotel.

Could be convenient, however, as there would be only one vehicle to manage.

The rear is roomy enough for me or Sunday, so let's compare rental prices for vans and limos.

PS: A Dacia Jogger van has 5+2 seats and costs 268€, a Peugeot 3008 has 5 and is availabe for 99,-. Then again, we don't have a difinitive number of attendees yet.

As Richard Linquist famously said, "Tanknetters run to a certain avoirdupois" so a van is probably indicated.  We also tend to have a large assortment of daypacks and bags that we insist on lugging along.  Finally, anything we rent should look good when captured by speed camera, we do after all have a tradition to maintain.

But only if a certain German is behind the wheel. 😱
