I suppose the actors are encouraged not to drink anyting at all because it makes editing harder (continuity errors if the beverage level goes up between cuts); same with, most egregious case, nobody actually eating anything in the Big Bang Theory (all the more irritating because every episode had at least two scenes with the cast sitting down for lunch, or for dinner). Not sure if the actors are to blame; suspect it's the producers driving this for post-production cost cutting reasons.

Try eating or drinking a realistic amount of food and drink in a scene - and taking a dozen takes of it. That and continuity explains a lot. Not to mention food that was edible at the beginning if the day when filming started might be much less so eight or twelve hours later under movie lights.

Actors in TV ads of foodstuff need to eat the thing that it is announced. So they provoke vomit between takes.

Im told when they were filming 'Ice Cold In Alex' they used real beer, because it was all they had that looked realistic. By the time John Mills did the last take, he admitted it was completely pissed.
Ivanhoe Posted March 12 Posted March 12 Some chucklehead posted a gripe that the new Shogun series doesn't have many blacks in it.

R011 Posted March 13 Posted March 13 There may have been some Black Africans amongst the Portuguese traders allowed into the country. Single digit numbers if any and probably in subservient roles. Their TV counterpart characters would be lucky to get any lines at all let alone a notable role.

But I think the people on set know the problem and still do it for reasons that we don't fully understand because we're not working in this business.
R011 Posted March 13 Posted March 13 It turns out to be harder than one might think, especially given the pace of TV shooting. There's no lack of footage showing food and drink and similar continuity errors - like length of smoked cigarettes - and other mistakes like Starbucks cups left in shot in Game of Thrones.

Stuart Galbraith Posted March 13 Posted March 13 Started a new show on netflix this morning. British Army officer is called home because his father is dying. The eldest son is supposed to inherit the estate and the title, but because he is a coke head, the title passes over to the second son. He finds out there is a canabis farm on the estate, put there by his father. He doesnt like this, but discovers his brother owes other drug dealers 8 million pounds, and whom promise to take it out on his genitals if they dont get it. Thus far, the most impired casting (other than Edward Fox in a 5 minute cameo) is Vinnie Jones as the presumably homocidal (he always plays homocidal) but animal loving gamekeeper on the estate. Basically, its an Ealing comedy as seen through the eyes of Guy Richie, and thus far at least, it looks promising.

sunday Posted March 25 Posted March 25 Despite the existence of a community of descendants of a 17th Century Japanese diplomatic expedition in the province of Sevile, one does not see a lot of Spaniards with Japanese looks in contemporary TV. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hasekura_Tsunenaga https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coria_del_Río Also, yes, that samurai was obviously a Nazi.
Stefan Fredriksson Posted April 8 Posted April 8 (edited) 3 Body Problem. Netflix. Like many others I was moderately cautious when seeing who some of the creators are. Also I had no idea at all what it was about (actually thought it would be comedy about disposing bodies). I was pleasently surprised. I think it was well written, entertaining and intriguing. Afterwards I have seen several YT-videos about the books, so I guess why most sci-fi-fans already know about this. Apparently there is also a Chinese version of the first book. Afaik the Netflix version takes parts from all 3 books. I especially like the Dark Forest theory. Edited April 8 by Stefan Fredriksson

Well, the author is Chinese, and published it in China first. Technically you're not wrong, but you're still not "technically correct" (which is the best correct, we all know).

Stefan Fredriksson Posted April 10 Posted April 10 (edited) When I wrote the first post, I knew the author is Chinese. Which possibly makes me technically wrong, but morally correct. 🙂 Edited April 10 by Stefan Fredriksson
TrustMe Posted April 11 Posted April 11 Just watched the first episode of Fallout on Amazon Prime Video. I've never played the computer games but the show was a subtle blend of sci-fi, violence and comedy. I will definitely watch the other episodes.
