The RNZAF finally took deilvery of the first of 4 P-8A Poseidon aircraft recently, and it has just arrived in NZ.

These replace 6 P-3K2 Orions which the RNZAF has been operating since the mid 1960's.

Still no fast movers though, would be too costly and too much infrastructure to re-establish to justify doing that, so have to rely on our Aussie mates across the ditch to help out in times of trouble if air support is needed.....she'll be right cobber, just throw another F-35 on the barbie !

New Zealand is in the fortunate position of being as distant from anywhere than anywhere else in the world, with the possible exception of Easter Island / Rapa nui.  It is also not on the way to anywhere else (except Antarctica).  So it is safe.  There is little from there that anyone wants that they cannot get from other places, albeit at slightly greater cost, but still cheaper than trying to attack / invade /  blackmail New Zealand for.  Australia does not need to help defend New Zealand, as there is nothing that Australia can gain from defending New Zealand.

Remember the New Zealand National Anthem:  'God Defend New Zealand"  that is because no one else will.
