Surprised none of our US posters have mentioned this yet.  Wasn't COVID and his brother is claiming he was killed (though no evidence of how).  Really bizarre story.

U.S. soccer journalist Grant Wahl dies at 48 in Qatar

Grant Wahl, one of the most well-known soccer writers in the United States, died early Saturday while covering the World Cup match between Argentina and the Netherlands in Qatar. He was 48.

...

Wahl was covering his eighth World Cup. He wrote Monday on his website that he had visited a medical clinic in Qatar.

"My body finally broke down on me. Three weeks of little sleep, high stress and lots of work can do that to you," Wahl wrote. "What had been a cold over the last 10 days turned into something more severe on the night of the USA-Netherlands game, and I could feel my upper chest take on a new level of pressure and discomfort.

"I didn't have Covid (I test regularly here), but I went into the medical clinic at the main media center today, and they said I probably have bronchitis. They gave me a course of antibiotics and some heavy-duty cough syrup, and I'm already feeling a bit better just a few hours later. But still: No bueno."

Heart attack is reported.

Not to mention, why would anyone want to kill football writer?

He showed up to the stadium with a pro LGBT shirt, then got kicked out. So maybe some locals got mad.

Plenty of lizard men are after David Icke, experts say.

bad day to be english ......

with Germany, Brazil, Spain outside. France next world champion

Morocco play against France in the semi final, it should be interesting. Morocco has been the best defensive side in the competition so far.

So Argentina-France it is. Seems about the right finalists from what little i saw of the games (although ARG-ENG would've been delicious for a final....)

Looking at the World Cup Final, i have trouble deciding who to support. On one side we have Argentina, who we fought a war with in 1982. On the other we have France, which we have fought dozens of wars with over the centuries.

Hhhhmmmm. I'm stumped.

Any thoughts?

Same problem but starting to lean for ARG. If nothing else, i suppose Messi if anyone would deserve to finish the international career with the world cup - and the salt that would no doubt be in the wounds of the petulant portuguese as an added bonus ...

Re: stargrunt's post - if anything i'm surprised there aren't more clubs with more players from those two... seems the english premier league at least has loads of both countries' players spread through a bunch of clubs.
