Musk has started cleaning out Twitter.  Perhaps those fired could learn to do plumbing, electrical, or construction and work more than 4 hours a week.

If you mean he fired the three top people, that really means little.  They'd have likely been fired even if they hadn't publicaly opposed his buying the company.  It's a bit early yet to see if he's even going to make meaningful changes at Twitter or just make a few headlines before switching his interest to another shiny object.

It's kind of cute how these edgelord dumbasses think that having the wealthiest business tycoon of the planet owning Twitter will somehow lead to LESS content moderation there.

You're certainly right that the follow-through is going to be critical.  That stated, having been on the receiving in of being the bottom in an acquisition, firing those at the top who were publicly espousing the company philosophy on day 1 absolutely means quite a lot.  It sets the tone to everyone remaining that the new decisionmaker desires the company to go in a different direction and whomever they are aware of going counter to it are going to be removed.  I think it's fair to say that the people remaining at Twitter know damned well to keep their heads down and are at the least being much more careful about what they put in their internal emails (and I betcha that a lot of email and TEAMs chains have been franticly deleted by Twitter employees this week) and decisions going to their new CEO.  I suspect in the next 2-3 weeks some dumbass moderator is going to get all brave and test Musk by banning some conservative poster to see whether they can get away with it.  Then we will start to see how serious and on top of this Musk is.  If he's smart, that person and his/her/they/its/firetruck/tinybluefairy boss will be sacked on the spot as well as anyone within a 30 meter radius who has any involvement including a TEAMs message to the effect "yeah, go for it!".

It's not a random partisan thread. Its a specific partisan thread. Or perhaps it should be in the space thread since Musk is involved?

She needs to be missing teeth after spitting on this guy.  That would bring some much needed courtesy back into discourse.

A friend of mine is a dev and told me this joke.  You might appreciate it.  😁

"All devs want to make $250k/year... most aren't willing to put in the 20 hours of work a week to get there."

Once they start conspiring with .gov, they're not really private anymore.

Cleanse it all with fire.  S/F....Ken M

There's a pretty strong perception in Silicon Valley that a lot of the hiring is just "talent arbitrage" -- basically, hiring Stanford grads so the rival companies can't get them, and then paying them lots of money to more or less sit around. I met a senior computer programmer from [insert giant tech company] a few weeks ago who was snobby as hell, he and his wife had matching Teslas, bragged about his six weeks of vacation, "if they don't like it then fuck 'em, I'll just work for the other company" etc. This might change after the recession though, and I don't think the Twitter guys made relatively huge incomes because the underlying tech is simple as hell.

Edit to add — $250k is not considered to be an especially good household income in NorCal, when a small to medium house costs about 1.5 million. It’s so messed up.

People at Twitter are mostly gonna run like hell and go find jobs at other companies. The house cleaning will be almost entirely due to them quitting, who would want to work for an erratic megalomaniac if they have options (and they certainly do). And there’s no love for Musk and his mission, unlike say Tesla or his space projects.

Anyone smart would use their Twitter position to get their foot in the door at SpaceX.
