Dawes
Looks like a pretty comprehensive system: https://www.dsca.mil/sites/default/files/mas/Press Release - Kuwait 22-52 CN.pdf
TrustMe
Isn't this just a poor man's SAM system? I'm sure that ground launched AMRAAM missiles don't have the booster power for a surface launch. If they do it will be heavily compromised in range / performance. Any thoughts? It also protects White House and Washington D.C. airspace, which should tell you something.... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NASAMS Effective firing range Radius of engagement for each of 12 missile launchers per battery for (NASAMS 2) is 30km[1] and for (NASAMS 3 / AMRAAM-ER) is 50km.[2][3] Radar detection and engagement range = 120 km[4] Edited October 8, 2022 by Sardaukar
BJE
I'd say both things are true. NASAMS is a good system, and AMRAAM has a far shorter range when launched from the ground compared to an airborne launch. AMRAAM-ER isn't really an AMRAAM despite it's name. Only real problem with NASAMS 2 is that it can reach only up to 10 km (some say 15km, real numbers are of course classified). Thus, Finland is buying either David's Sling or Barak MX from Israel to address that problem.
Dawes
AMRAAM-ER uses the Evolved Seasparrow booster for improved range. Seems to be a significant improvement over the standard AMRAAM motor.
