MiloMorai Posted July 28, 2022 Posted July 28, 2022 'Total bulls***': Anger boils over after Republicans block bill to help vets exposed to burn pits [Video] (aol.com) Democratic lawmakers and activists, including Jon Stewart, expressed their anger and frustration on Capitol Hill on Thursday toward Republican senators who blocked a bipartisan bill that would expand health care access for military veterans exposed to toxic burn pits.
Stargrunt6 Posted July 28, 2022 Posted July 28, 2022 Instead of turning the FFZ into your own personal fb page, why don't you post this on the right wing hypocrisy thread?

Sure is. The bills should be about a single thing and not all the democrat pet projects with a pretty title and unrelated spending. EDIT--- Went and found the bill. https://www.congress.gov/bill/117th-congress/senate-bill/3373 Apparently my presumption of extra pork is incorrect. However digging deeper, the point of contention is about the type of spending discretionary vs mandatory and the way that stacks up against the budget. I cannot gainsay the GOP senators wanting to pump the brakes on that. Edited July 28, 2022 by rmgill
Burncycle360 Posted July 29, 2022 Posted July 29, 2022 (edited) It sounds like they're trying to be consistent wrt spending in general at the cost of coming off as heartless. They're not wrong on the one hand as spending has gotten out of control, but republicans have a track record of irresponsible spending too so this particular one isn't the hill to die on. This is a poor move strategically, and this can only hurt them in the polls as the left is far better at framing things to manipulate the layperson's emotions and therefore sentiment and ultimately policy. They know myopic people with low critical thinking literacy's vote counts just as much as rational people, and they outnumber the rational by a staggering amount. There is a lot of low hanging fruit Soldiers should absolutely be taken care of (as should everyone) with service related determinations being presumptive here. That being said, it's also correct that out economic situation is dire. As an aside, It's fascinating to me that the left's sentiment with regards to their approach to calling attention to the need for environmental sustainability doesn't extend to the economy, especially considering gross fiscal mismanagement will kill you a hell of a lot faster than climate change. PCallahan Posted July 29, 2022 Posted July 29, 2022 My understanding is that the Senate GOP voted against invoking cloture in protest against Democratic tactics regarding the reconciliation bill -- they felt they had been burned by backing the CHIP Act Wednesday (with the understanding that the reconciliation bill would be limited to modest healthcare proposals), only to see a much broader bill announced two hours later. There was also reportedly some frustration over the lack of opportunity for the minority to offer amendments. The Wednesday vote was basically a symbolic protest; the bill will clear cloture early next week, with significant GOP support.
