Russophobic press in Wimbledon, was: Kiev is Burning (not Kiew - that is the German exonym)

I don't think Kate Middleton has ever said that she would be uncomfortable handing her the trophy. And in fact she DID hand her the trophy. Rybakina is Russian-born, but she's been representing Kazakhstan since 2018, so it's not like she switched after Feb 2022 to circumvent the Wimbledon ban.

Exactly. Trying to punish folks who are Russian born for anything they are doing is plain lunacy. The fact some folks are even upset at her is a bit absurd.

But it's only just your usual media bullshit, neither the organizers nor Kate had any problem with her.

Yup I know, but the fact that a lot of people in this day and age have an issue with it is telling.

The US government tried to gin up hostility if not outright violence against German-Americans during WWI. I'm no expert on that timeframe, but AFAIK the only areas that got into that were the big eastern & midwestern cities that had large immigrations in the late 1800s with the concomitant frictions that came from prior immigrant wave rubbing against next immigrant wave. I'll give you one guess which party got all lathered up about German immigrants all of a sudden...

I haven't been following tennis, but nice to see Djokovic won the big one.

It would be nice if someone else than Djokovic or Nadal would win something....the sport has had enough geezer rule as it is.

Nadal had a really exceptional career, but he is on the decline now.

Over the past 16 grand slams, Nadal or Djokovic have won 14 of them.
