BansheeOne Posted October 12, 2022 Posted October 12, 2022 Leaks, leaks everywhere. Quote Poland reports leak in oil pipeline to Germany 5h ago A leak in a section of the Druzhba oil pipeline is likely accidental, a Polish energy official says. Germany, which receives oil through the pipeline, has said supplies remain "uninterrupted." Polish pipeline operator PERN said on Wednesday that its automated detection systems had found a leak in one line of the Druzhba oil pipeline, which carries oil from Russia to Europe. PERN said that it was still unclear what might have caused the leak, which was detected on Tuesday evening. However, Poland's top official in charge of energy infrastructure, Mateusz Berger, told Reuters news agency that "we can talk about accidental damage." In a statement on its website, PERN said the leak was located some 70 kilometers (44 miles) from the western city of Plock and was on the main route transporting crude oil to Germany. "The cause of the incident is not known for the moment. Pumping in the affected line was immediately stopped. Line 2 of the pipeline is functioning normally," PERN said. A spokeswoman for the Czech pipeline operator MERO said no change in flows to the Czech Republic had been detected. [...] The German Economy Ministry said on Wednesday that Germany's Schwedt and Leuna refineries were still receiving oil via the pipeline and that the supply was "secure." However, the Schwedt refinery, which supplies 90% of Berlin's fuel, said in an emailed statement to Reuters that deliveries were ongoing but reduced. The Druzhba oil pipeline transports Russian oil to much of central Europe, including Germany, Poland, Belarus, Hungary, Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Austria. Its name means "friendship" in Russian. https://m.dw.com/en/poland-reports-leak-in-oil-pipeline-to-germany/a-63410763

In this case, of course, the French have failed to control their uppity, politically driven (i.e. not workers' rights driven) unions.

BansheeOne Posted October 13, 2022 Posted October 13, 2022 Sometime today we should make the 95 percent mark in national gas storage; at closing time yesterday it was 94.97. There's still some margin for improvement - the biggest depot of all in Rehden is only at 83.24 because Gazprom was dragging its feet when it was managing it before the government intervened. However, today an additional pipeline for LNG from French ports became active after recommissioning and reversal of the original flow direction. Quote France starts sending natural gas directly to Germany 1h ago Technical adjustments were necessary as the single pipeline between the two countries was originally intended only to deliver gas from Germany to France. France started sending gas directly to Germany for the first time on Thursday, GRTgaz said. The French network operator began modifying its pipeline networks months ago to enable flow in the opposite direction to that originally intended. "In a novel energy situation linked to the war in Ukraine, France is showing solidarity with its German neighbor by supplying gas directly to it," the company said. French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz agreed in September to an energy cooperation deal to reduce risks of energy shortages amid Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Germany helps France with electricity production shortfall France has traditionally been far less reliant on Russian energy than Germany, which is urgently seeking other gas sources as Moscow throttles its deliveries to the EU. But, almost half of France's 56 nuclear reactors were offline for maintenance or safety checks. The gas supply would allow Germany to produce more electricity that, in turn, could be sent back to the French grid during peak hours. "If we did not have European solidarity and an integrated, united market right now, we would have serious problems," Macron said in a televised interview Wednesday. Initially, 31 gigawatt-hours per day will flow across the border in Germany's southwest, with a maximum capacity of 100 gigawatt-hours per day. https://m.dw.com/en/france-starts-sending-natural-gas-directly-to-germany/a-63425604

DB Posted October 13, 2022 Posted October 13, 2022 Why would an official publication (as implied by the letterhead and "formal" layout) say "an official", rather than a name? if it's official, then the name and job title would be present. Is this "Javier Blas" account peddling complete fabrication, or just jazzing up the usual "speaking on condition of anonymity" made up toss?

BansheeOne Posted October 13, 2022 Posted October 13, 2022 I've thought for some time we should definitely substitute coal for gas usage in electricity generation. Replaces Russian gas while also boosting climate change for less necessity of heating. Win-win!
