How do you detect the submarine?

No differently from the way it was all supposed to work with DASH.

Alternatively, multiple drones with sonobuoys and datalinks back to shipboard or helicopter processing systems.

Yes, I was thinking along the lines of a mesh, perhaps with dedicated long-range or SATCOM drone nodes.

Mesh based  personal comms were being marketed by Cobham a decade ago and I doubt they were alone, but I haven't followed the technology at all. SATCOM phones weighed under 1lb 20 years ago.

Visual micro-drone buster:

The Army is officially adopting the 'Smart Shooter' smart rifle scope (taskandpurpose.com)

"After years of testing, the Army is officially adopting a specially designed computerized fire control and optic system that will allow troops to lock on to incoming drone threats with their standard-issue rifles and disable them with a single accurate shot."

It's difficult to believe that there aren't more jamming options available.

Even the ability to wrest control of a drone from the operator could be made available with enough tech.  It's not as if the Iranian drones used in the Ukraine are made with a magic technology that no one understands.

Around here there was a rash of commercially available drones being used as "peeping toms".  The solution turned out to be a shotgun.  In one instance a local took out a drone hovering over his pool with a bow.

Over time a solution will be found but sooner is better from a military point of view.

EuroNaval Exposition in France: https://youtu.be/2AAN6ArO0ns

It's in French, but you can still follow the gist of the contents. The technologies displayed are mainly for naval application, however many can be applied for land/air use.

- New aerial drones.

- Underwater drones, including a drone to control other underwater ones.

- Sensors of various kinds.

- Warships of various types including a carrier proposed by Hyundai.

- Display of Nexter multipurpose gun systems starting at 2:20. A 20mm and a 40mm using telescoped ammo.

I found the 20mm gun interesting because a few weeks ago, in the Kiev thread I mentioned that back in the 70s, the Germans had a 20mm AA system that used an analog computer for fire control and nowadays, you could do the same by integrating old cell phones, digital cameras, thermal imagers with old AA guns or MGs for defense against drones and other low flying aerial targets. Basically the same principle as NLAW, predictive guidance.

For the German gun, after emplacing the gun, you would program the no-fire zones to avoid hitting buildings and such. Upon optically acquiring the target, you would follow it in the reticle for a short time, then the computer would take over to lay the gun.

The Nexter 20mm gun is basically using the same thing I said, put in a nice-looking package.

Using the same idea, combined with PF ammo in old guns would be cheap and efficient: Bofors L60/L70 for example. Maybe not for rich countries, but certainly good for poorer countries that can't waste missiles on low tech suicide drones.

As for the Nexter 40mm system, I've seen videos of it mounted on a vehicle. Rheinmetal also is testing a 35mm mounted on vehicle. Both systems have radar guidance, backed up by optical predictive guidance.

C-RAM is good but short ranged and not mobile.
