Warsaw pact OOB update

Yes, I know that website for many years. The GSFG still may have some errors, the NVA is brilliant. As well as these about NATO countries (although Louie's BAOR is brilliantly excellent above all).

'We've never been this close before!' :D

There is some interesting stuff in there, particularly the control tower/nuclear bunker, that has a lower level with a model of the airfield to control the field in NBC conditions. Pretty impressive actually, not unlike the Americans control the decks on their aircraft carriers.

Yep. And more interesting is, that the airfield's model was made with use of grass and trees for railway maquettes in TT (1:120) scale (smaller that H0, TT was extremely popular before 1989 in Poland, DDR and other communist coutries, as being best suited for small areas in homes - TT means "Table Top" 😁). I still have almost a complete TT diorama with all  necessary equipment...

Hornby have just announced a 'TT' range over here. It was quite big here in the 60's and 70's, before most people moved on to H0. Whats old is young again I guess.

Its a good piece of work, its always nice to see a modelmakers work preserved. Its a shame there isnt a local wargaming club to demonstrating it working as intended though. :)

Hoorrray!

It seems that the Socialist Warsaw Pact TT standard is going to conquer the Capitalist NATO world... 😁

Polish air force:

In the 1980s, the main training was aimed at fighting single and group air targets at low altitudes in cooperation with air defense missiles in the conditions of enemy fighter and radio-electronic protection.

East Germany air force:

Each base had fixed days for flying. Fighter wing 8, the one where the author flew, was allowed to fly on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The other days were flight preparation days. Normal flight days were done from the flight line. Once a month we flew out of the hardened shelters. A flight preparation day started with physical training for the pilots followed by the post flight briefing of the last flight day. A meeting of the entire wing (usually 3 squadrons of about 16 to 20 pilots) where the commander in charge set the priorities and goals for the next flight , was then followed by the personal preparation of each pilot together with his flight. No pilot was allowed to fly next day unless he past a quizzing by their flight leaders and the flight leaders by the the squadron officer for flight training.
The flight day began with a weather reconnaissance flight of the commander in charge with the next highest officer. All other pilots meanwhile did a sort of cockpit training inside the planes and preflight preparation/discussion in their flights. A high speed low level fly-by by the weather MiG-21UM usually indicated that we were to use the first (good weather) variant of our schedules. Mid to high level clouds meant second variant (low level VFR flight if the ceiling was high enough and intercepting in the clouds). Really low clouds with a top of less than 1000 meters allowed us to fly aerobatics and dogfights above the clouds combined with supersonic intercepts in the stratosphere. A preflight briefing by the commander on weather conditions was next. A normal flight day was 6 hours of active flying with a second shift doing the same, using the same airplanes. If we had to combine all of our effort, we would fly only one shift of up to eight hour.
The average flight time for our pilots was 100 hours per year. That's only half of what a NATO pilot gets. However, every flight was an effective mission from the training syllabus with no x-country flying (except being the target for a fellow pilot) or other bogus flights involved.

The People's Navy took over the first two systems in 1980. In 1990, the People's Navy had ten systems with 112 missiles, twelve systems were planned. The self-propelled launch pads were part of the equipment of the Coastal Missile Regiment 18 "Waldemar Verner", which was stationed in Schwarzenpfost near Rostock.

Yes, according to the unit's history website, they had plans to buy 2 more launchers in 1990 and form 3rd battallion, so in wartime there could be set 3 x firing positions, networking with Osa, Shershen and Tarantul attack boats, as well as Su-22M4 planes.

I'm not sure, how the cooperation with planes worked, but IMHO that ASM-warship cooperation could work pretty well.
