R011 Posted March 16, 2022 Posted March 16, 2022 The Spanish Navy operates SH-60B and F. They are apparently planning to buy a few NH-90 maritime transports. The Spanish Army operates NH-90 transports.
Dawes Posted March 16, 2022 Author Posted March 16, 2022 The document mentions that four of the eight aircraft requested will be delivered with Airborne Low Frequency Sonar installed. Are these four helicopters therefore dedicated to ASW or can the equipment be swapped between aircraft?
sunday Posted March 16, 2022 Posted March 16, 2022 Swapping equipment between helos is an established practice, especially in the matter of FLIRs and the like. Seems these helos will be asigned to the existing F80 and F100 frigates, and it seems some kind of NH90 ASW will equip the F110s. So I was wrong. The NH90 ASW could be available by 2027, according to this.

These possible contract would aim to close the gap between the first Bravos being taken out and the NH-90s ever becoming operational (Airbus sez 2027, but...). Tipically, "provisional" measures will become permanent.
R011 Posted March 16, 2022 Posted March 16, 2022 Is there a good chance the remaining Bravos will be replaced by Romeos? Are the NH90 intended to replace the Foxtrots and how long do you think it will take to replace them with an H-60 variant like the Australians did?

Yes, that's what the Navy really wants and what makes sense (the sensors would already be integrated with the existing and future frigates), but Sunday is right that common sense walked out a long time ago, replaced by political expediency.
