This is late, but, Mike Leach, my favorite football coach.

He was a lawyer before he became a coach and revolutionized the game with his ideas.

He was never afraid to speak his mind and no topic was off limits.

To wit:

I was going to mention the passing of Mike Leach last week but thought it fairly niche.

Leach was also my favorite football coach and it was a kick to the nads when I read that he had been removed from life support.  We lost a great one that wasn't afraid to speak his mind.  RIP, Mike Leach and never forget, CJK5H.

Craig James.

Couldn't raise more than $500k in Texas for his senate campaign.

The only soccer player's name I knew. And probably true for most Americans.

Well, Leonel Messi...

Pele was one of those rare cases where journos refer to an athlete as an ambassador quite accurately.

He moved the football further in America further than any other player.

Ex-pope Benedict XVI., at 95. There had been preparatory statements that his condition was degrading fast, and even pre-emptive media eulogies in recent days. Still the only pope to retire before death in modern times. His successor Francis has hinted he might do the same, as his own health is fading, too. At least that way we now don't get multiple retired popes at once - it would have been getting confusing.

If they had multiple retired Popes, they would just have to go and build an Old Popes Home...

Well he left the world a better place than he found it. Thats not a bad epitaph for anyone when you get down to it.

I am seeing a certain amount of blubbering in the press about B16's death; "Omaigawd, what do we do about a retired pope's death? What is the Church gonna do?"

Anything to drive clicks, I suppose.

What to do?  Burn him, bury him, or dump him.  He's probably too old to be an eater.  The rest is just details and ritual which I'm sure the Vatican can figure out.

Anyway, Ratzinger always seemed to me to be an honest man.  Were he younger and the Vatican version of the Deep State more cooperative, he could have been even greater than St. John Paul II.

I think no we can add 2022 itself to the list by now. I ain't dead yet but it won't make another day.

After crappy 2020 and 2021 a year that really took the shit cake. So good riddance!

Rest in Peace, Benedict XVI.

I mostly agree with that comment. It should be noted that, while St. JPII was no slouch in that regards, BXVI was more of an intellectual -one of the top theological minds of the 20th century- and less of a man of action.

The Vatican Deep State began to be a problem at the time of Pope Saint Paul VI (see the Gagnon report), and the thing only got worse since then, especially in the last twenty years.

This was bit too accurate, IMHO....

Why do you hate so much Christianity, Sardaukar?

The picture is funny. Don't read too much into it. Would you have all satire banned?

....or has some basis on reality, or it is not about those that should not be mocked. 😝

Or it is not classless as putting this the same week of Lizzie's death:

So that very fine gentleman feels the right thing to post after the death of a good man is a anti-Christian meme, without any "rest in peace", and that should be good and dandy.

No "Stay classy San Diego" memes, either.

You may allow it or not, but I strongly disagree.
