Does anyone have us army /NG / USAF aviation oob for 1989 (helicopter units)

Have a look in the 1989 NATO OOB at Pat Callaghan's site Perun, seem to recall that had a pretty detailed breakdown of what you are after.

Hope that helps.

Finding the actual listing of Army Reserve and Army National Guard aviation units was (is) extremely challenging -- I recognize that the listing is incomplete and would appreciate any additional information.

Yes Perun I have seen that before.

Its to do with Operation Dropshot, a 1957 US plan for a widespread war with the then USSR.

http://www.allworldwars.com/Dropshot - American Plan for War with the Soviet Union 1957.html#12

It was also published as a book - Dropshot: The American Plan for World War III Against Russia in 1957 (Book title, ISBN 080372148X), but I think most of the content is included on the above site (but not the maps).

If I remember correctly the map you have posted makes up one of the endpapers of the book.

Do I take from the air landing symbols that this was based on the assumption West Germany and Denmark had already been taken by the Soviets? Rather ambitious to roll them back all through Eastern Europe to their own national borders then. I assume the plans included blasting a path with copious amounts of tactical nukes?

Must be earlier, because it's referring to strategic airforces operating out of 'Cairo Suez'. I don't see that working post 1956!

...American Joint Chiefs of Stuff had to contemplate probable Soviet's actions and by 1949 came up with a plane of effective military response. "Dropshot" is a result of these contingency planning, a frightening but realistic scenario of the Third World War, started between NATO and USSR in Europe and all over the world on January 1, 1957.

Perun,

I have a collection of notes on U.S. Army Aviation. I will send them if you want to put the puzzle together (I am swamped with British Army updates).

I wouldn't mind seeing those notes as well please, working on my own list of it as well.
