rmgill Posted October 20, 2021 Posted October 20, 2021 Theres plans afoot to fix the COVID and economic supply crunch issues in the US by activating the New York National Guard's medical units. In California the army to solve the container handling and trucking shipping issues with the weeks behind port of Long Beach. Are these resources sufficiently sized and equipped to handle these problems? Are there enough 900 series line haul tractors and appropriate MOS Transport units to make a dent in this issue?

I wonder what those Guardsmen do in their civilian lives. Because if the medical units personnel is already working in healthcare, then the whole exercise could be quite pointless.
rmgill Posted October 20, 2021 Author Posted October 20, 2021 I'm aware that Log units have handling gear to move 20' ISO containers. Can they handle 53' containers as a rule?
Josh Posted October 21, 2021 Posted October 21, 2021 I don't think any military activation will be more than a dog and pony show. The log system is simply overwhelmed and it will take a while for it to catch up - or rather a while for the US's overdrive of demand to be satiated.
Ivanhoe Posted October 21, 2021 Posted October 21, 2021 I have heard RUMINT that NG is now deploying to CONUS on their rotations for COVID support, instead of downrange. I assume the numbers are such that they can only saturate a few hotspots. On a nationwide scale, maybe won't move the needle much. For those communities, probably a big deal. And surely a more rewarding deployment than wandering stomping around Ft Polk or wherever.

The West Coast logjam has not been discussed here, and looks like a serious problem.
futon Posted October 21, 2021 Posted October 21, 2021 SDF setup vaccination centers in Tokyo and Osaka and started giving shots since May 2021. Maybe a total of about a million shots by now. Bunch of little reports like these two examples: May 24th to May 30th, about 43,000 in Tokyo. About 23,000 in Osaka. https://www.mod.go.jp/j/press/news/2021/05/31d.pdf June 7th to June 13th, about 73,000 in Tokyo. About 34,000 in Osaka. https://www.mod.go.jp/j/press/news/2021/06/14c.pdf
Simon Tan Posted October 21, 2021 Posted October 21, 2021 It's just the precursor for COIN operations against neo-fascist terrorist entities operating in CONUS. They are to be regarded as unlawful combatants.
ex2cav Posted October 26, 2021 Posted October 26, 2021 As was written above, it will be a dog and pony show to give the appearance of "doing something".
seahawk Posted October 28, 2021 Posted October 28, 2021 No it will be used to establish a military presence in key sector of society, so that ending democracy and installing a leftist dictatorship becomes easier.
ex2cav Posted October 29, 2021 Posted October 29, 2021 I sort of realize the US is moving from a Representative to Authoritarian Republic. Maybe I should have posted this in the COIN thread.......
